Solid pro who's performances and character has helped get us to where we are today. Cheers Martin I'm sure there'll be a team in the championship looking for experience.

Texted news to brother, his response, in three separate messages, was to the point but accurate IMHO:

Good servant
Never moaned
Top lad.

I wouldn’t moan either, if I was paid £12m for 8 years work. Never really had the ability to hold down a first team spot, under quite a few managers. Never really let us down, when asked to play.

He was hung out to dry by Pardew when he kept playing him at left back and he was getting hammered by tricky wingers week after week. Felt sorry for the guy as he was clearly never a left back!

Genuinely wish him all the best. Whenever he was played at CB, his natural position I always felt he done well. Personally I don't think it would of done any harm at all giving him a run out CB yesterday instead of Ward seeing as it was going to be his last game for the club.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Is he off then? He's made a good career out of us. Was possibly the worst LB we've ever had but has been a solid squad member for some time, fair play and all the best to him if so.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it!

He's been a reliable left back but more importantly, when called upon a solid squad member for eight seasons. Scored the goal at Spurs to take us on to Wembley.

Agreed mate. I'm guessing his ball skills means he's perhaps not the best at playing from the back. But, as you say, he was a decent central defender. He'll still have more of a career - either promoted side or championship is my guess. He always seemed committed, even if he wasn't Kyle Walker. I remember when we thought he was a major signing! How things change in football.

Whilst i wish Kelly well i think you need to take the rose tinted glasses off. Yes, i agree that he was a decent performer in his first few years at the club i think it needs to be said he was pretty awful at LB, although in his defence he was clearly being played out of position.

I think he was a solid squad player for the first 5 seasons with us, the last 2 or 3 due to injury and lack of ability he has barely played.

Yesterday with 2 CBs missing he couldn't even get minutes in his best position. I think that speak volumes.

'Twas only meant to be a humorous statement HoP, however I was very relieved when PvA arrived as was under the impression Kelly was only stuck there in lieu of no other alternative, plus he is right-footed and I would consider a CB!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I thought he was a really brave player. Never ducked a challenge and was always in the thick of things when we we were on the ropes. As I recall , he was Pulis’ last signing but never played under him. I should have thought he could still do well at a Premier club.

Was a good squad player. Good luck to him hopefully he goes to a decent club and gets some game time.

Weirdly thought centre back was his best position but he rarely player there for us.
Used as the left back when Souare was injured and we didn’t buy a back up and he did not look comfortable. Not too bad at right back and good goal on our cup run v spurs

One of the things Parish and Dougie have frequently pointed out is that in their recruitment (the transfer market), they look at the character as well as the talent of a player; personalities that will fit in with the club's ethos and add something as well as technical skill on the pitch. This approach seems to have served them well and it's been executed with considerable success, something I suspect a lot of other clubs overlook in their quest for so-called big names. It's another feather in Parish and Dougie's cap.

What it's given us at the bottom of the squad has been a core of players who've really added a lot without playing a lot. Rather than moan about their limited opportunities, it seems to me that the likes of Kelly and Jairo, for example, have really knuckled down to their given roles, added to the group, helped the kids develop, and been valuable employees. Sure, nice work for the millions they're paid but that's being overly cynical. Players like Kelly and Jairo may be easily replaced but their personalities and contribution to the club less easily so. While they've not been so important to the team, it's a squad game and they've been really important to the squad.

Thanks, Kells. You'll be missed.

As with KB’s left foot, I would have liked to see him play but I think you are also being a tad harsh. We haven’t ever beaten Man U in the PL so when you are 1-0 up it is not the time to put on a player who has had no recent minutes at all. So I don’t think it was because he isn’t capable, I just think PV desperately wanted to win the match and trusted Ward to keep it tight.

If we were 3-0 I think he may well have got a few minutes as he did warm up. At least he got a round of applause whilst doing that.
