It is quite ridiculous for the Cornish to claim some sort of separate racial purity, since the Cornish have spread all over Britain and the Commonwealth. I have a load of Cornish and Devonish genes, as do many others. I am related to the Pascoes and Nancarrows of Cornwall and it doesn't get more Cornish than that. Some down there think your family has to have stayed there forever to qualify. I have always found the people of St Ives very friendly, but then I haven't bought a house there. I'd move to the West, but I'm the only member of my immediate family who thinks it's a good idea.
My wife has long wished that I was related to Poldark, I can’t think why

Public toilets will become a business soon enough. There have been more. Presumably, these are in the UK already?

Amazing all the experts on Cornwall here. I might not be Cornish, but I do live here. The story about the loos in St Ives is new, though. The principal isn't. It's quite usual for local people to be given a discount on things. We can get a yearly pass for the Eden Project, for instance. It encourages out of season use. Having to over provide facilities for the summer surge in visitors, which are then under-utilised during the off season, costs money. Never forget that Cornwall remains a deprived area. Second homes here are becoming a crisis, especially in the coastal towns and villages, with prices being forced to levels completely unaffordable by local people, and then left empty for most of the year, turned into AirBnbs or holiday lets. Drive the local people away, and you also drive away part of what the people come here for in the first place. I am sure this is not exclusive to Cornwall, but the whole idea of a rarely used second home, when people cannot afford a first one, doesn't sit well, does it?
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

How can anyone in London afford to buy a property? Maybe Cornish people have had it too easy and are now being forced into the real world. Seems they don't like it. Well, that's change in action and apparently we all have to live with it.

So the local people would be happy driving the tourists away? Some areas do give discounts on local attractions but public loos? Come on Wissie.

Getting invaded by people not local to the area and it causing housing issues, who would have thought it. Welcome to the world that is the rest of the UK. I have zero sympathy, we have invited all of these problems on ourselves.
