He strikes me as being something of a ' nearly ' man.

It seems to be a case of almost but not quite with him.

I still think he's trying to cope with the intensity of the game at this level.

I think he's worth persevering with, this season has been a learning curve for him.

At Celtic he was a big fish in a little pond and scoring was fun against poor defences although I suspect he missed quite a lot as well.

In the PL you are lucky to get 2or 2 good chances in a game and probably less if you are a Palace player. He needs to step up I believe he had the talent but can he be clinical when he does get that chance. He finds himself a squad player not the main man, well only he can change that.

JPM has improved his work rate and yesterday I saw signs that Edouard has taken this on board his movement and work rate was good but he has to do that every game.

Must of missed this.

Very good post, agree with every word. I think either an optimistic or pessimistic view can be taken on this one, I'm inclined to the former.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I reckon Édouard is a very technical player, with a good strike. Doesn't quite have the physical presence of Mateta. I don't think there's much between them and they will compete for a starting place next season. There was one match this season where Edouard looked decent on the left but I reckon he's a central player. I'm presuming (appealling) that someone will (please) take Benteke, maybe even pay a few mil (or pretty much anything) for him.

Outside the top six, the scoring records of non-top-six players is shockingly bad if you take away penalties. Vardy got 12 I think. Just shows how hard it is.

Need to bring another striker in before letting any go.

It will be interesting to see how the club intend to develop Plange. He may well be sent out on loan to a Championship club with a view to gaining regular game time. Alternatively, if he is given a good amount of game time in pre-season, the club may decide he's ready to fight for a place in the first team.

Either way, I can't see Benteke going anywhere, not because we will need him but because I don't see anyone coming in for him with terms that he would be prepared to accept. His failure to get 1st team game time at Palace in recent months hasn't stopped him being part of the Belgium national squad.

Finally, if Wilf stays and buys into PV's idea that he can play a central striking role then, with Edouard and Mateta on board, we won't IMHO need another striker if we are lucky enough to offload Benteke.

4 goals for Luke in 26 games for Derby (Wikipedia tells me) so not earth shattering though from reports he contributed a few assists and it was a difficult environment.

Relegation battle, 19 years old leading the line up front. Could be his level is beyond the U23s and we will have Akinwale moving up I imagine. On loan sounds a decent bet but let's hope he surprises us and can compete for the first team.

I don't think so as there is also Mateta, Édouard, Ayew and Zaha, so we would have options. Plus Plange and maybe one or two from the U23s will be on the fringes. There's no place for Benteke anymore and he needs to know it. We need to free up the wages. We'd more likely need a wide player in my opinion.
