OK, I get the drift, there are non Russian vodkas. In fact, my favourite Welsh distillery make a fine version branded Five. Very drinkable. But, I won't be deflected from my mission, to persuade you all to refuse purchasing Russian goods of any kind. Vodka being the most likely candidate! You gonna turn off your gas supply then? That might be Russian? Not sure....

But I do know we are increasingly reliant on foreign supply of gas/oil/coal which are cheaper from Russia than other places. The price of "green" energy I suppose. Sorry for the derailment, but I suggest we could use the vodka as fuel instead of oil powered generated electric... Edited by Tim Gypsy Hill '64 (02 Mar 2022 1.18am)

Would drinking Ukrainian vodka help the resistance ? Or has the Russian military already taken control of this key strategic asset ?

Try Somerset Cider Brandy. You won’t regret it. It's made a a couple of miles up the road from me, so can truly second this - the blackcurrant and morello cherry flavour brandy liqueurs are excellent too!

Where are we going here? Are their current Russian players in the EPL? Are they going to stop playing as Ardiles and Vila did during the Falklands? I wonder what Luka thinks. Serbia is probably the most emotionally attached ally of Russia.

Well lads and lasses, HOL is ahead of the game as usual. I read this morning that German supermarkets have banished Russian vodka from their shelves. They say they will stop selling all Russian made products, including confectionery, ready meals and spirits, clearly following our example. We can be proud of our initiative to cripple the Putin regime. When he is finally charged with war crimes or found in a bunker with a bullet in his brain we can all stand tall and say "Vladimir Putin: our part in his downfall"*. Apologies to referencing that fabulously funny book by the late Spike Milligan - "Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall". If you've read it you'll understand where I'm coming from.

He did after all, tell us he was ill! Lived quite close to my 'home ground' in Brockley, Lewisham for a while. Have not read the book but will put on my bucket list!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm sitting here watching the news about Russia invading Ukraine......and I'm drinking Stolichnaya Vodka. It's actually very good, but I've just realised that by drinking this stuff I'm supporting Russia's economy (although I think it comes from Latvia). I know I could pour it down the drain, but I'm not that fanatical. I stopped drinking Scotch in a one man protest against Nicola Sturgeon's insistence on Scottish Independence and I think it's working. Now I have decided never to buy Vodka again and I implore all you wonderful HOLers to do the same (or any other Russian goods for that matter). I know that if we do this, Putin will give in and admit defeat. Just realized!
