The Godfather Parts 1 & 2 That's the top 10 IMO.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Angels with Dirty Faces should get a mention, I actually think the Brits have made a few decent gangsta fliks last few years, The Business, Sexy Beast and Hatton Garden, was only Get Carter and The Long Good Friday that had the authenticity of US films uptil recently imho, never seen all of Brighton Rock so can't say how dated it might be.

Angels with Dirty Faces is a brilliant film. The ending with Rocky going to the chair is still very effective.

The original Brighton Rock is very sinister. Can't believe there is no mention of Bugsy Malone

There's an Italien film called Romanzo Criminale which is well worth a watch.

The question doesn't require the word "gangster" to be present. The answer would still be "yes".

'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather Part II' are the only movie and sequel to both win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Another gangster movie of note is 'The Roaring Twenties'. Sorry if it's already been mentioned.

Soundtracks or songs used in gangster films? Carlito’s Way The Business Baby Driver, not really a gangster film, but a brilliant soundtrack. The theme for Get Carter (among others) was composed and played by Roy Budd who went to my school. In fact, I beat him at marbles! I recall seeing him play piano at a Mullards kids Christmas party. He was probably only 6 or 7 and could play anything the kids shouted out. Died aged 46. Tragic.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
