Your favourite James Bond actor & why

Frankly, most of the Connery efforts aren't that good.
Dr No and Goldfinger are probably the pick. The second half of From Russia is OK.
Connery had his qualities, as did the great Sir Roger, who made it all a lot of fun. His Bond was more entertaining, but increasingly silly. Live and Let Die is still one of the best, and The Spy, Golden Gun and Moonraker are still very watchable. Even View To a Kill is half decent.
I wouldn't give tuppence for Brosnan's films but Dalton made one of the best older Bonds in Licenced to Kill.

Fact is, Craig's five films piss on the others in almost every way. They have done a great job of reimagining old Bond set pieces without being too obvious. My only criticism is that the later Craigs strayed into the more silly aspects of Bond just a little too much, particularly in Spectre. Casino Royale was right on the money.
The beauty is that you can enjoy all the Bonds for their differences.

They must have considered it but I suppose there's always that push for younger viewers....but it just seems awkward to me....Bond isn't meant to be that nice nor that interested in 'feelings'.

Much like 'Mad Men' was a success showing a different age I think Bond would be as well.

I think Craig started out well with Royale and he was initially closer to the spirit of Bond as an assassin, just as Connery was.....but the last few were just increasingly embarrassing as the obvious attempts at 'reinvention' just don't fit....not for the likes of me anyway.

I think the last Bond movie only just made a small profit....and was a weird mix of love/action story. That isn't really Bond.

Agree Stirling. Casino Royale was super slick - No Time To Die was more like a glorified ad for Range Rover, lost count of how many in the film.

 

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Totally, and it had several characters, all women, in the movie shown just as good as Bond in...well basically kicking arse...with one announcing she's only had weeks training. You get the impression that Bond isn't really needed.

Ok...but what's the point of that, it's meant to be focused on Bond not attempts at feminism commentary. Awkward and out of place in that kind of movie.

I still think it was one of his best, and therefore one of THE best.
My criticism would be the rather clichéd and uninspiring villain and the slightly far fetched sci fi plot.

Casino Royale would still be the one you took to your desert island.
I think Spectre undid some of the good work the earlier films did by avoiding hokum.

the homophobic scene of the two gay men pretending to be wine waiters must surely soon be deleted as the Left march onwards ?

One of them was the father of George McFly from Back to the Future.

I think that was a joke parodying the silly Bond girls of the earlier movies who shriek and get caught. The lady (Ana De Armas) knew how to fight and was sexy I was gutted it was just a cameo.

The big disappointment was Lashana Lynch I have seen wardrobes less wooden and more scary.
