He was one very funny man. He didn't need a script - he wasthe script. He was a prolific writer of comedy sketches and gags. He wrote for Morecambe and Wise and The Two Ronnie's among others. And, as you say Teddy, he was a regular on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, that irreverent radio show hosted by Humphrey Littleton. You could always hear Cryer chuckling in the background. If you don't know the programme there are plenty of clips on YouTube. He had a good, long life and recently said 'I'm so old, I don't buy green bananas!' There are so many things that made us laugh that were written by Barry Cryer. RIP Funny Man.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I had the great pleasure of having dinner with him once. It was a corporate shindig at one of the big London hotels. I was a guest and each table had a "personality" on it. I was lucky and happened to be hosted by Barry Cryer. It was a very long time ago, before he became quite as well known as he did. All I remember was that he was every bit as amusing in person as he was on-screen, or the radio. A genuinely nice guy who just enjoyed making people laugh.

That won't matter. We will probably have a national holiday and a statue when he goes. Numerous white actors, sports people and indeed even reality TV stars have had their deaths make headline news. That's the third thread now where you contend that the death of black individuals alone are elevated to headline status and that nobody else ever is. Not only is this a perplexing racist delusion (it certainly wouldn't be your first), it's also factually inaccurate. Perhaps the next obituary thread can be something other than your never ending crowbarred in view on blacks. Just a thought.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz! Name them and produce the video evidence. Oh, and while you're at it, produce some evidence of 'racism' and my views on 'blacks'. It is all in your head. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (30 Jan 2022 6.54pm)
