You mean make it into the Premier League.

But I see the U18s and U23s leagues as independent standing in their own right.

In fact I am getting more out of watching them now than the PL.

And they play top opposition, the Liverpools etc.

And no VAR.

What's there not to like!

I mentioned this before, a retired person I knew was teaching the Palace academy kids (homework club).

He tried to explain that education was really important as in the class 1 might possibly make it as a professional footballer. Of course the kids all believed that they are that one so didn't pay attention.

Whilst I think the academy football is great I do worry how many of those kids are sold a false promise and what damage does it do to the failures. Do they get good jobs?

I keep hearing posters say if we get 1 player coming through each year that they'd be happy but I'm not sure that's a realistic target.

I have no stats but my gut feel is that even at the best academies they are likely to only get 1 player every 3/4 years.*

*The big clubs are pinching the best young players from other academies and then passing them off as their own. I am not sure how you can measure success I would say if a player has been with a club from say 12 that counts but a player who comes from elsewhere at say 16 / 17 isn't really a product of their new club, but that's me.

Found this snippet & thought i'd slot it on this thread, as, if it comes to fruition, it is another indication to our youngsters, that opportunities do & will happen.

This is in regards to Jesrun Rak-Sakyi . . . [Link]

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Would be a good move for him, on loan of course.

I had hoped we'd see more of Jes in the first team this season, but the reality is with Olise, Ayew, Zaha, and Edouard all able to operate on the wings he faces some serious competition. A loan move to a club of Rangers stature would be great providing he actually plays. I'm surprised no Championship clubs have come in for him to be honest though.

Chelsea have turned loads out in the last 3 or 4 years;

Mount
James
Hudson-Odoi
Tomori
Guehi
Abraham
Lamptey
Livramento
Broja
Gallagher
Gilmour
Christensen
Chalobah

As far as I know, most of them were there from kids, and all come through in the last few years.

It is possible!

I am not knocking them but they did kind of have to step it up for a period of time with that recruitment ban that they had in that season when they appointed Frank Lampard.

An academy isn't something you can 'step up' overnight really - you have to have been building the quality for years, which is what Chelsea have been doing.

Players as good as Mount and James would've found their way into the first team regardless of any recruitment bans - both of those are still regulars now, as are Chalobah, Hudson-Odoi and Christensen, and they've spent hundreds of millions since.

With Diallo going to Rangers on loan from Manure, I'd be surprised if Rak-Sakyi goes to Rangers as well.
