If I was Watford my main reservation would be that Roy is not a Pardew type manager who will bring instant results. Instead he seems to come in and focus on getting organisation and structure in place to build from. I wonder if what they really need is a motivator given the late stage of the season. With Norwich having a resurgence (hopefully ending against us!) and Newcastle seemingly willing to buy their way out, plus Burnley with half a season's worth of fixtures in hand they might not have time to be patient. We saw it with Allardyce coming in too late for WBA and he's similar in his approach to Roy. The big plus point for whomever takes the reigns is that by far their best player is due to come back. With a front three of Dennis, King and Sarr they have a real chance, especially if someone like Roy can make the defence a bit more organised. On the downside there are a lot of show boaters in the squad and perhaps fewer Roy type players. Will they be willing to spend 90% of the game defending the 18-yard line? I love Roy and am grateful to what he did for us. I certainly don't ever want to see football like we did in his last 12-18 months again, but needs must. I'm sure Watford fans would probably feel the same if he kept them up.

Well we certainly know how Roy will set them up. Could be a bore fest, but if he keeps them up I’m sure all Watford fans will be eternally grateful and Roy will go down in premier league history as a great manager.

Isn't that his decicion to make? Of course. Roy looks in the mirror, Roy's reflection stares back: "Roy, do you really need this?"

I guess if your talking about English managers with PL experience who have a chance of saving you from relegation at the end of January with only a few days of the transfer window left - (you have to do it with the players that you have) there are really only a couple of guys that spring to mind - also if you are Watford you would probably consider that you have a fair chance of surviving given the first half season form of Norwich, Burnley & Newcastle. I guess the big questions are can any of those other 3 turn their season around. How much effect will Newcastle new players have ? Will Everton implode ?

We have to play them twice still i ghink. Our game with them was called off in December. Should be interesting, you know Roy will setup Watford defensively and hard to get through.

Slightly concerning. I expect Newcastle to buy their way out of trouble and now Roy is at Watford I think they will fight their way out of it. I hope we don't get dragged into it we could do with some back to back wins.

He was a happy marriage with Palace as he was given limited objectives and breathing space to achieve that. He worked within a restricted budget and modest aspirations. I feel Watford's owners will be less patient and set unrealistic targets. The revolving door at Watford in recent seasons does not suggest that our Roy will do any better than his illustrious predecessors... Except against us.

As far as Roy going to Watford is concerned, he will have a tough job hauling them out of the danger zone, although they do have some decent players. I have not yet heard it's been confirmed, but seems to be a hot rumour. I don't like the club or their style of play, particularly against us. To me, they lack finesse and that may just suit Roy's approach, although he has less time to turn things around there than he had here. Roy did a tremendous job for us, but watching our play now is far more enjoyable. If he does decide to join them, I wish him well, but not their results.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I would imagine it will be an "end of season" type arrangement, it would seem doubtful that either side would be pushing for longer. Originally posted by silvertop

"Roy, remember when you said "I really am stepping away from football for a while, but who knows what the future will be? It is a never-say-never moment. I've seen so many people retire with all the fanfare blazing, only to surface again somewhere in a fairly short period of time. I'd prefer not to do that.""
