Our biggest problem seems to be defending set pieces and that isn't a matter of style as it's poor coaching. Pulis, Allardyce and Hodgson started off by coaching the defence and their teams wouldn't have conceded the soft goals that we are currently leaking. Sort that out and we will be flying

Norwich aside we’ve had some tough games recently and a difficult start to the second half of the season. Judge our points tally after we’ve played Norwich, Brentford & Burnley in our next four games.

The reason i asked is are we trying to get to a place and style that is just out of our reach, i find it hard to watch when the keeper rolls it to the CD and then back to the keeper, do we have the players to do that, or is it better to play longer, get the ball wide to olise or Shlupp/wilf and get more crosses in as we have 3 6fo0t plus centre forwards, isn't that playing to our strengths I've said it before on here, and Steve Parish mentioned it on Sky before the Brighton game. Palace are still a work in progress. New manager, new players and new playing style. Some of it has worked very well, some of it not so much. But ( as SP also referred to )if you compare us to Brighton, their style has evolved and developed over the last three years to where it is now. We are two years behind. Bloom kept faith with Potter at times when a significant amount of Brighton's support wanted him out. We may need to do likewise with PV as he continues to embed his preferred playing style, and builds a squad that is comfortable playing that way.

If Dyche was in charge, we'd have Benteke and JP upfront and would be booting it long all game. We wouldn't have got to see the best of Connor. Would have scored half the amount of goals. Would hate watching the games. Would have similar points.

Win, lose or draw, I’m enjoying this season, for the simple reason we’re at least trying to attack. I’m having a near heart attack every time we pass it about at the back, but at least I know I’m alive, watching most of the home games under Roy the last 2 or 3 years I wasn’t so sure sometimes, I found myself checking my pulse zzzzz No doubt we’d have a similar amount of points under dyche, but it would’ve been grim getting there Edited by monkey (24 Jan 2022 10.12am)

Exactly We all knew this year was going to be a bit of a transition. And we've made that transition much quicker than everyone would have thought. Yes we are still a bit fragile, but we are exciting. This is completely new for most of the team, and they are only going to get better! To have the potential to be 2-0 down to Liverpool and still make enough chances to win it is exciting. We're also not in immediate danger. Playing exciting football, bedding in young blood, transitioning the footballing philosophy and finishing midtable. Think we would have all bitten your hand off at the start of the season.

In the short term, yes, because like Roy Dyche would prioritize making us solid, closing down space, absorbing pressure, and avoiding mistakes. When you play football that stresses mitigating risk at all costs, in the short-term you probably end up with a few defeats turned into draws. However, a year from now we'd be in the same position and a year after that the same again. Dyche and Roy don't build and progress teams; they exist in perpetual survival mode and the odd better-than-that season is an unexpected bonus. Plus, even in that odd good season, their sides aren't pleasant to watch. This year, Vieira's emergent side, still learning, still being formed, may well end up with 5-7 points fewer than Dyche or Roy would achieve. Because sometimes to learn how to win, you have to risk a defeat. But next year, with a year under the belts and better versed in the required playing style, I expect they'll far exceed anything Dyche, or Roy, would ever aspire to. Our focus needs to be on long-term gain, not very short term pain. It's pretty obvious to me we're moving in the right direction as a club.

The players we recruited last summer would not have joined to play for Dyche. Instead we would have brought in Chris Wood and Tarkowski for top money. Not for me thanks.

I am glad to see many comments supporting PV, i agree possible short term gain is not the way forward, long term planning is vital, PV is raw but will get better game by game, i think this summer a lot of players out and a few new players in
