The only ‘clear and obvious’ thing today was a clear and obvious dive, surely if anything VAR should’ve noticed that. I can take a VAR decision going against us, but that was bollocks

Kevin Friend should be banned for that performance. He’s a total disgrace as a ref. Totally biased towards Liverpool for the entire match and topped it off by awarding the penalty that never was

Overall I've been a fan of VAR but today was ridiculous. Jota had no control of the ball, it was running out of play, Guaita held back so not to make contact but that wasn't possible as Jota decided to change his direction to run into him rather than follow the ball. Not obvious until you see the slow motion replay......which is what the ref made his decision on.....he's either a Liverpool fan or he's been paid handsomely Edited by herefordeagle (23 Jan 2022 6.48pm) Edited by herefordeagle (23 Jan 2022 6.49pm)

I was in favour of VAR because I naively thought it would provide officials with the technical means to make the correct decision according to the laws of the game. Clearly this is not the case, and by highlighting the incident in question it only brings the incompetence, alledged corruption and bias of the official into plain view of tens of thousands of onlookers. The fact that VAR took so long to look at it and Kevin Friend took so long to look at it tells you in itself it wasn't a penalty... If you have to look at it over and over and over again then it's not clear and obvious is it?? Terrible decision.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

VAR's flawed because it's introduced personal politics to refereeing. Once he's at the monitor there's pressure not undermine the bloke that's dragged him there and as the learned gentleman has said if it takes that long to look then it can't be.

There was something quite not right about the adjudication today, like the feeling I had when I heard the pre match 'having a laugh' in the tunnel before the FA Cup final between Sir Alex Ferguson and Mark Clattenburg (the ref) and the game changing decisions that followed. Yes I'm biased, but there seemed to be a number of fouls/ potential hand balls that were waved on by the ref in favour of Liverpool. Surely after such a long delay (VAR) the ref should not be asked to look at a small screen in not the most conducive situation to make an impartial decision? OK I'm a bad looser - if we'd taken our chances we'd have won the game!

Once Firmino jumped for the ball he became active and therefore offside and no goal. So why didn't VAR run a check on that and if they did in the background, then why wasn't the decision to award a goal over turned?

I am absolutely seething, still, an hour after the game. Am I just a bad loser? Or was there something corrupt going on today? Surely Kevin Friend and Craig Pawson should be held to account and VAR should be scrutinized? Jeeezus. Me too

Usually after a few hours I can come to accept a bad result but I'm still fuming. There were the two Liverpool goals where those operating VAR got it bafflingly wrong but also the ball through to Benteke that immediately got flagged and Olise falling on his head and Friend just waved on play. It's true we missed good opportunities but it doesn't detract from the fact we were officiated differently to our opposition today. And it stinks to high heaven of big team bias.
