57 years & counting for me, '64 away to Newcastle(me mam's a geordie). My uncles were, as you would expect, 'Toon' supporters. It was one of my uncles who told me that the team Newcastle were playing were my local team, CPFC. Hence a love affair was born.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I like this thread, I’m an old bugger, but it’s making me feel quite young in comparison

Ah, you’re all kids! My first game: 31.08. 55 v Torquay United, Division 3 South. We won 3-0. I was a noisy seven years old. If only the subsequent sixty-six years had delivered such straightforward wins. Yes, it’s been a roller-coaster. Palace is a much larger than life club, a breeding ground of great players and the mediocre, of hopes sometimes delivered, sometimes dashed, of a roll call of characterful managers that would grace any Scorsese movie and, finally, a period of Premier League stability that shows how far we’ve come. We are the noisiest, craziest fans in the country. Long may Dave Clark defy time and changing tastes, continuing to serenade us towards the the glory we so deserve. Whatever the future holds, one ongoing certainty for Palace, never a dull moment.

Stood behind the Whitehorse goal, where Roy Bailey was the Palace custodian (father of Manchester United's Gary, I believe). 0-1 defeat to Colchester United. I didn't enjoy it much and my attendance was patchy till we were relegated to the new Fourth Division, where we became one of the leading teams.

Come March my first game will have been 70 years ago. Don’t know who it was against, just remember getting shoved into a front row spot on the railings, on the half way line in what is now the Arthur. The rest as they say is history, highs and lows, a real rollercoaster. My seat now is not that far from where it all started.
