WHU don’t own their ground. I’m not sure how, if at all, this influences FFP. I would have thought that a ground value must be factored into a club’s wealth.

I presume WHU also have to pay rent or did Khant let them off that as well?

West Ham are a much bigger club than Palace on all fronts.

Rubbish, similar size team

Except they have a bigger ground (by far), a more expensive squad (by far), have been in the prem more consistently than us (17 years from the last 20, vs 10 for us).

That being said, over the last 8 years our league position has been pretty consistent. They probably average a little higher than us (over that period) but I'd doubt by much

They’ve reaped the rewards of lockdown. Keeping their toxic fanbase away, allowed them to build a platform. But when it’s not going so well, that ground will become a cauldron negativity again and it’ll all go to sh*t.

Actually I’ve got to say on Saturday how beefy their players looked. They all looked really chunky. I’ve always thought of say Declan Rice as being slim like say Tomkins but he and indeed all their team looked like they were popping out their kit. Anyone else notice that?

Without meaning to sound sarcastic... we literally just lost to West Ham. They're a good side.

But they're open to being surpassed, just might take a couple of years

They don't have a ground, and they pay less wages than us, they mainly buy from smaller players

West Ham are a richer club than us, helped by the size of their stadium and minimal related costs (subsidised by all Londoners), which will make it increasingly difficult for us to close the gap.
If you look at the available resources/income for Premier clubs, if Palace can break into the top half we are doing really well (punching above our weight). To do so consistently we need to up our income (e.g stadium development).
Otherwise we will continue as London’s 5th best team, and finishing towards the top of the bottom half in the Premier League, which is not something to be embarrassed about.

At the moment one could argue that we are the joint-worst PL team in London.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

What a load of tripe

WH have a 99 year lease, so they effectively own the ground. Regardless of ownership they still have a much bigger ground than us (likely bigger than we'll ever have)

Over the last 4 seasons they have spent over £300 mill on transfers (we've spent about £100m), buying from the likes of Dortmund, Lazio, Arsenal, Villarreal.

What big clubs do we regularly buy players from? (plus any players we've got from bigger clubs have been on the way down)

Also why does it matter who you buy from?

It doesn’t. And having the Olympic stadium built on their doorstep is not the point either.

They’re bigger because they have a bigger fanbase and because they’ve had a more successful history than us. The reality is though, that we’ve been on a par with them for a long time and their recent improvements on the pitch are what we should be striving for. And I think we’re heading the right way on that front.
