The young left-back Tayo Adaramola has also created a bit of noise this season as a marauding defender. Given Mitchell currently has no competition he might be another one to keep an eye out for.

Agree with this & dont forget Olly Webber the GK, he was on the bench for Spurs & in all likeliness will be again today.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

What's your idea of '' molly codling '' ?

And I really don't get the TAA reference. Wayne Rooney made his debut at 16 years old but that doesn't mean that any given youth player is ready to play at the highest level.

Of that group, in my view Rak-Sakyi could get some game time this season.

Banks - a lot of potential but not consistent over 90 minutes
Rich - sorry, looks a slight upgrade on Ryan Inniss but no more than that
Dreher - not sure why you have included him, he hasn't played a single game this season at any level
O'Brien - Decent but very raw.
Omlabu - He's still finding his feet at U23 level
Kirby - Played well at U23 level this season and has more experience than most of his team mates. Not close to being Premier League level.

Only my opinion having watched most of their games on TV this season.

I agree - if they are good enough, they play. If they aren't playing the chances are they aren't considered ready/good enough.

But you don't know unless you try them, its a mentality thing as well, some with thrive others will disappear, but you don't know unless you try

For teams like us survival is the key, so being progressive in terms of youngsters development dosent appear to be a main driving factor - though the club seem to be investing in that area

You could contrast Kirby and Gallagher who were both playing in the England youth team that won the World cup. Taking into account that both were good enough to be in that team then their individual progress is marked

If players don't get the opportunity early then that can have a detrimental on their development

AWB rise was down to circumstances (injuries) not from a will to bring through youngsters at our club. He was reportedly close to joining Coventry before events conspired in our favour. £50m is a lot of money

Excellent post, your learning years are 18-23 after that nothing much changes

Was Wan Basaka pulling up trees in the reserves before making his debut ?

Surely If he weren't doing well then the debut wouldn't have happened.

These players are playing amongst their peers and if they don't stand out they don't get to play with the first team.

Those playing with the first team are going to be directly compared to those within their positions.

It's very rare that the cream doesn't rise to the top. I expect one or two to play before the end of the season as tired legs will abound.

Gallagher went on loan to Charlton and did well. Kirby to Blackpool - didn't work out.

Both had an opportunity, one pushed on, the other didn't. Being an U17 England player is no guarantee of success, they need to keep progressing. Some do, a lot don't.

Gallagher seemed to do better with local loans ; they're was not a huge amount of positivity about him coming to us this season after his season with the baggies

Some of it has to do with nurture and how much the club believes in youth player promotion. Gallagher was on Chelsea's bench for a European final. AWB was on his way to Coventry - Richard Shaw has connections with them

No, he wasn't pulling up trees, played as a winger up to the year before, got his debut against spurs because of injuries

Decided to have a look at our Academy and under-23 squad, which reminded me of one of the most unusual signings I think we have ever made: Jaroslaw Jach. Why did we sign him, why do we still have him ( we signed him in 2018 )if he can't even seem to make it in the moldovan league, and why is he still in our u23 squad?

Jay Rich-Baghuelou, a big centre half who likes to play out from the back. Hopefully an Anderson on steroids.
