I haven't looked at the timeline but I would imagine that by the time the racism investigation started & had gathered sufficient momentum it was probably already too late to pull out of it. In all honesty I doubt whether any of our batsmen have given it a thought. By all accounts the conditions were such that having won the toss we should have bowled but I expect that Rooty was scared of doing a Nasser

Some can barely be described as adequate.

I fell asleep in the armchair and woke to find us three down in a blink of an eye. I wisely went to bed at that point.

Disaster really. Too many poor decisions. Overcast and green wicket, absolutely perfect for Broad who the Aussie openers are terrified of. Choose to bat. Broad not selected. Fail. Credit where due, they bowled well. You can never tell what a ‘par’ score is until both sides have batted - I’m guessing it’s higher than what we scored but you never know. Bad start but keep the faith.

Throughout the time I have followed England playing test cricket there has been something of a pattern ... humiliating defeats interspersed with some occasional good, even great performances. However, whenever we are showing some promise e.g. winning the 2005 Ashes in England and in Australia ( 2010/2011?) we follow it up with inconsistency, and some downright awful showings. We never seem to build a side that can dominate the game for more than a season.

What a fight back. This is why Test cricket is the best. Gone from absolutely dead and buried to having an outside chance. If Root and Malan can see out the first session with the the new ball (big if), we’re arguably on top. Interesting that Hazlewood wasn’t bowled, he’ll be fresh and dangerous with the new ball. Root and Malan have been superb, just need to reset and go again tomorrow. Another 260-270 and we’re in with a real shout. The pitch will get harder to bat on and chasing down 200 is never easy. The series is alive.

That went well Yep. It's the hope that kills you. Broad & Anderson with the pink ball should make it a more even contest in Adelaide. Warner and Hazlewood looked to be crocked for the convicts.
