As a club we are still in a transitional period.

New manager, new players, new style of play.

Generally performances have been good albeit results haven't matched up, largely due to individual errors.

We are still some way from having a squad in which we can have players seamlessly slot into the team when PV has to shuffle the pack.

My expectation is that this season we will finish around about where we have been in recent years. And that, in my opinion, would be a successful platform to build on.

We have issues, yes. but I thought that PV did alright vs Leeds.

formation/Lineup looked OK - odd that Zaha and Eduoard were in each others positions, but kinda understood that.

The 3 subs he made; Benteke improved us so proved to be correct. Would have liked to see Olise come on earlier. Not sure about Hughes, showed a lot of energy, but seemed rather headless at times. happy to put that down to pressures of 1st appearance.

Thought we had a tough game. Leeds wanted it more and pressed us well, and without Anderson and JMac we didn't live with them. That shows the weakness in our squad.
Tomkins and VG worried me every time VG got the ball. Tomkins would drop short and stand right next to VG? like thy don't trust VG's distribution. Tompkins would then float the ball to a midfielder, so Leeds could just put pressure on the receiver immediately. I'd rather he just hoofed it tbh.

When Benteke came on, we looked much more dangerous. How he missed that header I'll never know. but we wouldn't have even made that chance had he not been on the pitch. Cliché, but he could have had 2 tonight with the header and the Meslier save off the line.

That was the only PV mistake for me, in hindsight, CB should have been on for OE from the Start. but at least he changed it with enough time for CB to make a difference.

I think it’s more to do with injured players and having a poor bench to pick from. We made some good buys, but clearly not enough!

yeh its mccarthur who was pulling the strings and has been sorely missed. He was very critical for our style.

and if benteke scores that header on Tuesday then its a very different game all of a sudden. I thought overall we played well

I'm starting to get worried now about our Pat. He looks utterly pickled and bemused. Maybe started to believe his own hype, over complicating things. He treatment of Eduoard is really odd, totally negating his effectiveness by playing a natural finisher out wide on the left. Last Saturday he plays negatively with two holding midfielders when we needed more legs (Schlupp) and goes more attacking away from home last night. Letting Cahill go looks a huge mistake when another year of nuturing would have helped the talented, but very green Guehi. Also it does not help when the press jump the gun and start predicting that Patrick could end up at Man City soon. He was only at New York not long ago!!! This could end up with a Pardew-like 6 or 7 defeats on the spin!! Honestly it could be that bad.

I had genuinely forgotten what a wally you are until I read this post.

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

Would've come away from Leeds game with creditable away point if not for mad moment handball (and with three if Benteke took gilt-edged chance) vs. Leeds whilst in other games we have been somewhat unfortunate to have been assigned to teams with new Managers and players suddenly thrust into having to substantially raise their game to impress when otherwise laboured.

Vieira can do no wrong for me in the main = players self-discipline and efficacy of execution of game plan means everything as well. There have already been results this season that demonstrate a resilience and verve moving forward that we were all too lacking against similar teams in previous seasons.

Ridiculous rant by the OP... We are going through a massive transistion of playing staff, coaching staff, tactics and have done bloody well up until now, surprising everybody, us fans included. We are still a massive work in progress and PV I'm sure will still have targets he wants to bring in.

As others have said there's not alot PV can do about individual errors. Like the other night for example. It's not his fault that Benteke misses from 6 yards or that Guehi handballs it in the last minute.

Be patient... Rome wasn't built in a day.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

A truly brilliant post Kenny and in total agreement!

These are valid points.

The Leeds lineup and system was all wrong.

Schlupp is better coming of the bench anyway this is when you get the best from him.

Wilf needs to be dropped he is lazy even PV was screaming at him and playing him as a striker is a joke.

Why oh why did SP not give you the job instead of the World Cup, multi PL/FA cup winner. How much better off we would be.
If you read the Palace interviews both Wilf and PV have confirmed PV “rollocks” Wilf all the time, even in training. Wilf doesn’t seem to mind and says it keeps him on his toes. Wilf is not playing well but lazy? Not that I have seen

What a stupid thread.

We lost based on fine margins. A late unlucky (but correct) penalty against us and a poor miss from Benteke. On another day we'd have won 1-0 and we'd be talking about Patrick the Messiah and we'd be in 7th. Do we expect to just roll over teams like Leeds away from home?

We are so much better than last season and speed in which we have changed our style in quite remarkable.
