The new coronavirus variant Omicron could see the Afcon football tournament cancelled altogether. Also, if it spreads around the UK we will all be watching bloody football from home again!!!! Edited by Pierre (29 Nov 2021 9.10pm)

FIFA needs to get its s*** together with regards to AFCON. Every other region manages to get by with its Championship played every four years if it's in season. Why Africa needs to do it at double that frequency is extremely questionable. FIFA needs to put its foot down and back a rule where each region can host as many championships as often as it likes, BUT it's only allowed to demand primacy of player selection once every four years. If it chooses to hold events more often than that, then it'll have to be done and they'll have to be played with only those players clubs are willing to release. It's wrong on every level that clubs are held hostage to AFCONS financial needs every other mid-season.
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |

I'm not so sure about that [Link] Burnley and Brighton have one a piece (albeit both key players), Newcastle, Norwich and Leeds have none. Everton have two but neither are that integral. Among those teams more likely to be fighting the drop I would say us and Watford are going to be far more significantly hamstrung than the rest. It is a bit of a worry if AFCON goes ahead. This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Perhaps a very good time to play Liverpool though even with our potential player losses given they could be without Salah and (how) Mane (goals is he going to score against us?)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Africa Cup of Nations' by becky This is commencing in early January. With the amount of African Nations on our red list today ( Nigeria just added) I will be surprised if any players from English clubs go. It would certainly be frowned upon at least. That would obviously help us enormously.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Africa Cup of Nations' by becky Might not necessarily be a bad thing if Kouyate, Schlupp, Ayew and Wilf go other players can get a chance and might do well e.g. Hughes, Eze, Olise, Riedewald and maybe Rak Sakyi might get some minutes if he is lucky. Also might make Vieira play 2 up front Edouard and Benteke which is better than putting one on the wing which does not really work.
