I use Paypal as well however a Financial Expert pointed out that you are not covered like a credit card. So even though your Paypal account is linked to your credit card it's not the same as paying with a credit card. Cheers my man, duly noted, I'll probably be stopping paypal.

Always use visa credit card when buying anything over the net / phone. Got stung for a couple of unauthorised transactions when i brought tickets for a Palace home game 3 or 4 years ago, gave all the details and low and behold when the statement came through a couple of weeks later these appeared on there. Fortunate it was my credit card and the money spent was written off my account, if that had been a visa debit would have struggled to get that back. Never mind dont use Amazon but just strikes me as greed somewhere down the line!

Something else I found out say you want to buy furniture for £5k but your credit card available balance only allows £500, however you can pay the balance in cash. As long as you pay £100 on your credit card the whole purchase is protected by the credit card company. I got this from the horse mouth when it happened to me.

You are right but the problem is, it so convenient to shop using them, wider range, no hassle getting to shops, shop while on sofa, delivered to your door. They are not going to lose customers and they know it Definitely. I try to support local businesses where possible but the convenience factor does play a big part in shopping habits. With pubs, apps like 'Neverspoons' highlight local and independent pubs so are a decent option on that front .

Thanks Badger, I appreciate the advice.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Von Haus cordless hedge trimmer from the Von Haus store on Amazon for £80. After I bought it I found it on Von Haus's own website for £60 A few days later I was going to buy an electric blanket from slumberland's store on Amazon but found it considerably cheaper on Slumberland's own website

I prefer to make payments with my current VISA Credit Card rather than debit cards. Might get an AMEX or Mastercard if this issue is here to stay. There are many establishments that don't take Amex due to the high transaction charges so be careful there

I have quite a few credit cards but they all have specific uses First Direct for all my daily purchases including Amazon Sainsbury card for purchases at their store which gets me double Nectar points Virgin Money for using overseas as they don't load the exchange rate Barclaycard is emergency card in case Virgin Money card is rejected overseas All of the above are paid off in full every month MBNA Visa for interest free large purchases The best way around this new problem is to get another card and the most obvious one is the Amazon Classic Mastercard which will only be used for Amazon purchases and I have just applied and been instantly accepted with the insulting credit limit of £1,200 but I'm unlikely to spend more than that on Amazon in a month anyway so my problem is solved EDIT - I also got a £40 gift added to my Amazon account making it very worthwhile changing Edited by Midlands Eagle (18 Nov 2021 8.44am)

I did, a couple of years back do a good ol' clean sweep of the bank switch offers to the tune of about £1000. Possibly a bit too much hassle for many and your credit report takes a small hit (nothing like you'd imagine though) for around 6 months, but if that's irrelevant to you at the time it's a decent freebie.

I now pretty much exclusively use AMEX because of the airmiles. Most places take it now. (If you are smart you can get enough points every other year for (next to) free long haul business class flights.) The whole Amazon Visa credit card thing is greed on all sides. With Brexit, Visa have opened a loophole and have increased their fees 500% to outside the EU purchases. Even though we are buying with Amazon UK (and almost always buying product in the UK) Amazon are registered in Switzerland for tax reasons so would need to pay Visa's higher fees. Its not really a big issue as Amazon wouldn't do anything that would impact revenue. There are plenty of other payment options. The real issue is that 'we' allow all these multi nationals to be based out of tax havens, so instead of hard earned tax going back into the economy, it goes into Bezos's pocket.

Id find it surprising if the larger corporations like Amazon dont get a good deal from the Schemes in comparison to the smaller businesses, but i can only think that Visa's charges are seen as unreasonable. Interesting that Amazon are still accepting Amex, renowned for higher charges; Though probably down to the smaller number of transactions using amex. Broadly speaking it's a good move by Amazon to challenge Visa on this, and I expect this not to actually happen, and an agreement to be made so Visa can be used again.
