I compare the expected success of a club to the size of its attendance. In those terms, compared to the average Palace has been punching above its weight for some time now. Things have been positive recently in terms of play, if familiar in terms of position. That said, I think the stadium and attendance size has to be addressed for the club to make significant progress.....and that's a whole other ball game.

We've over achieved to have stayed in the top two divisions for so long. But there really aren't many clubs our size who have never, ever won anything. And no, I don't count the full member's cup but I would die happy if we could win a solitary League Cup. Or failing that, a chance to see us away in Europe would be very very special.

European competitions, for me, have been over-milked and no longer hold the magic they once had. It used to be fantastic to see glamorous clubs from Spain, Portugal and Italy come and play (and often beat) our top teams. Now we have a huge number of Europe's best players in the PL, the mystique has gone. I'd sooner we had a great FA Cup run. Still not as important as a great season in the PL. So I'm not fussed about Europe.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

There really some very sensible people on here. I, however, am not one of them. Europe is definitely on, maybe champions league. At the minute, we are, I think, the 4th or 5th best team in the league, behind the top 3. Toss up between us and the Hammers but I think Eze will edge it for us. Also, I think a European run would absolutely be a good thing. How is watching Palace in Milan, Athens, Istanbul or even bloody Krosnodar ever a bad idea? Checking Skyscanner as we speak

Best to Google for more in depth detail, but we have had a series of owners, starting with Ray Bloye in the 70's, that have failed the club. In some cases just as it appeared that success was around the corner. Steve Parish has his detractors on here, but trust me, he is far and away the best man we have had and his track record bears that statement out. He's made mistakes like anybody would, but generally learned from them. So then if you look at our achievements v. our South London rivals. Charlton - in all the years I've supported Palace, this lot have had the upper hand on us for only a few of them. They are now so far behind us, the gap has never been wider. Looking to the future, and the original question, those of my generation will be wary of getting ahead of ourselves after a few favourable results. But the club is looking healthier than it has for many years. The building blocks are in place to achieve Europa League football and personally, I would love to see us compete in Europe properly for the first time. I wonder how we'll f*ck it up ? I bow to your superior length of time suffering Palace, but I have to agree, Parish is a resounding part of our 'success'. He's been here nearly a decade now, over-seeing the most stability I've ever known. We literally don't do last-day-of-the-season glory/glorious failure anymore. Playing in Europe could be amazing. And maybe it could happen, at a peak of a cycle where everything aligns. But it could be a curse. Invariably these teams lose on the Sunday following their Thursday trip to countries that didn't exist 25 years ago. Then they finish 15th that season because it turns out they only have 15 half-decent players. I was trying to recall whether Burnley had been in Europe recently. And Wolves. And then I had a recollection of Middlesbrough having an amazing run, and Fulham. So it could happen, but equally we could plummet the other way! Like Middlesbrough and Fulham. Eaglehamster's point about the quality in the league is valid. Do we really need to be playing PAOK Salonika for our kicks? This season alone we have already played 4 of the 6 Champions League finalists of the past 3 years - beating two of them.

Although I would welcome a european cup final win, and would be there wherever it was, the champions league has diminished the old European cup! Only Celtic, Liverpool, United, Forest and Villa will ever be able to say they have won the greatest club cup ever, with only the champions of each country entering, even the champions league, as much as i would want us to win it, is nothing compared to it! I had to ask a group of Chelsea supporting taxi drivers on the rank, talking about their champions league win,(the one before the last one), did you win the league though the previous year? I said its fair enough if you won the league, that almost counts as much as the European cup,(almost as you still arent playing actual champions in every game), but did you? A funny thing happened, to a man, not one of the 7 odd Chelski fans could remember if they had in fact won the league the year before winning the "champions "league, I said well I can- and you didn"t! The look on their faces was priceless! So, if we are going to win a cup in Europe, I say go for it, but if we are going to play 20 games including qualifying rounds to get in a europa league bog down with relegation from the EPL after due to injuries etc-forget it! The league cup is a good aim for us, and its older brother the FAcup even better, but europe, forget it, for now!

We’re not far off Utd and Arsenal but OGS will get the chop soon. Europe might be a stretch too far for us this season but if we keep progressing under PV, it’s a realistic target next year. As for do we want to play in Europe? YES. Would give a bollock for it. There’s no point loitering in mid table if there are is no glory/memory’s to come from it. Following Palace around Italy, Germany, Spain and Eastern Europe is fairytale stuff. The Europa League looks strong this year.

Can we just win the FA cup please - I’ve been supporting palace since 1968 and we have got close on a few occasions. It will also give us a place in Europe. I could die a happy man (hopefully 20 plus years away yet ;-) These last 10 years or so have been brilliant but until recently I never saw us as a top 8 club, but Vieria / Parish is making me feel different about that :-)
