That is not a team to go on a cup run. Make some changes sure, but you have swapped out every single starting player.

Sorry, not suggesting for a second that that's the team we should play: just demonstrating that PV has a whole lot of players he needs to try to keep engaged.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but think PV will be under some pressure to give some game time to those potential first-teamers who haven't seen a great deal of action (or at least full games) this season. Thinking:

Butland

Clyne Tomkins Kelly Riedewald

Hughes Milvojevic Schlupp

Olise Mateta (is he still here?) Eze

Still a strong team to be fair. You’d expect us to beat all Championship sides with that 11. We’ve got the best depth I can remember

Until the FA commit more money to the FA Cup Prize money fund it wont be taken seriously by most clubs.

Win the FA Cup, wining 6 games = £3.8 mill in prize money (approx)

Each place in the Premier league is worth about £2 mill in prize money.

putting a full team out for 6 games in the hope of a 3.8 mill return does not compare to improving your league position by a single place over 2 games.

Sad, but reality.

with the Failure in The League Cup, I'd like to see some fringe Players get some gametime, I think/hope Butland + Hughes, but also Rak Sakyi, Eze even before he gets PL Time.

then the rest of The Team is first teamers.

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

Is there any way this site can automatically open this topic every year without putting any poster to the bother?

OK, Roy said the cup is not the glittering prize it was and I agree. It is only of value for blooding players or if you get to the Final which impacts on increased overseas fans / exposure and thus revenue; and also gives one a bl00dy good day out!

Otherwise, not overly bothered if we get knocked out early... only if we proceed to the later rounds where it is the hope that kills.

It is the football equivalent of the Holy Grail. My family has supported Palace for four generations. I'm now 55.Just to lift the cup once would mean everything. I respected Alan Pardew's all out attempt at winning the cup in 2016. He actually played his strongest players in the cup. The concentration on the cup cost us league places over the year, but who didn't prefer going to Wembley, to finishing 4 places higher in the league?

Wembley here we come!

I'm quietly confident we will have a good run in the cup. 66/1 odds of us winning it. Well worth a punt on those odds! That's us out then first round away to Torquay!

The spirit of this self-deprecative twist made me laugh, however:

1) we don't enter until the third round
2) Torquay went out in the fourth qualifying round

Anyone remember the League Cup tie against Torquay a good few years ago? We were dire, even with Lombardo in the team, but I guess a win is a win!

EDIT - to avoid being out-pedanted, I should clarify that we DREW with Torquay 1-1 before winning the replay 2-1. 1998.

If we ever actually get past the third round (or second round in the League Cup) we occasionally do alright.

I think we have a squad strong enough for a few extra games.

f*** it. Yes, I think we will win.

Manchester United in the final. OGS sacked after blowing a 2 goal lead to lose 4:2.

Would make up for LvG being sacked after winning the bloody thing.

Manure's last domestic trophy. (Hopefully the last ever!)

But winning it gives the club way more than 3.8 million.

Silverware, history books, taste of European football... it's worth it.

A club like palace will be happy being mid table.

A club finishing 8th only has 2/3 more wins than a club finishing 17th so a cup run is def worth it
