We can't reverse climate change. We can only reduce our impact on it. What we can do is protect our island from being over run by illegal migrants. Bring them in legally, do it all by the book and we can get them all working, paying tax and contributing from day 1. Win-win for everyone!

It would be a rather foolish policy to hope for a sudden reduction in human population. Population should level off at some point, but far too late to avoid disastrous consequences. The main concern now should be protecting our Island. Of course, we should be moving away from fossil fuels and investing in renewable, clean energy. Sadly China and other developing countries are unlikely to do so. China will always lag, until the time comes where renewables are more cost effective for business than fossil fields anyway (a day which is thankfully fast approaching). We've just got to get on with it anyway really because if we always waited for the last in line to act on everything, nothing would ever get done. As for immigration or asylum, I think it's reasonable to take in a certain number each year, but as we're an Island it's reasonable for that to factor in. It's perfectly fair to not want an ever spiraling (upwards) population.

Sadly China and other developing countries are unlikely to do so. Whenever you write these kinds of posts, I know what's coming. Lots of doom and calls for action but never a word about any sort of practical, achievable solution. Population increase is only part of the reason for man made warming. It's much more to do with our lifestyles and expectations, and those can be adapted. They already are. I agree though that climate change is inevitable. Even if the reduction targets are met, which seems improbable, we are going to face a significant warming which will have some big consequences. Achieving the target is really important, as without doing so we face a potential catastrophe, but we also need to attend, just as urgently, to preparing for the inevitable consequences of the warming we know will happen. This doesn't yet appear to receive much attention. We might live on an island, but the world today doesn't reflect that. It is simply unrealistic to expect we can raise the drawbridge, retreat to our castle and leave the besieging hordes to starve outside our walls. More likely, we would starve inside. We have no choice other than to tackle these problems with our neighbours, and together we must do that at source. We need to find ways to stop the "hordes" wanting to invade us because there is no need to do so. People don't leave their homelands through choice. They only do so through necessity. It will be near to impossible anyway, but Brexit has made this much, much harder to accomplish. Great result all round.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

We should advertise the wonders of the EU member countries through which they pass in order to get here.

Not win-win for workers who wages come under pressure because of others who are willing to work for substantially less. Having said that, we seem to have plenty of people in the UK who just won't work if they it's not a job they like, they need to be incentivised to get into work. Originally posted by Beanyboysmd

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Of course increasing population is the primary driver in man made environmental issues. To suggest otherwise is potty. There is no doom and gloom, only reality. As we know, you have no grasp of that. We need to prepare for the inevitable by stopping migrants entering Europe. They don't migrate out of necessity in many instances. That is another one of your fantasies. Brexit has nothing to do with it. It will have no bearing on any agreement that is made in future, and no effect on how we defend the borders of Britain.

Yes, I was going to ask can any of them drive , pick fruit and veg-even rotting fruit, carve up a pig, wipe an old persons bottom, or serve ale in Brexit Tims Witherspoons? If the answer is yes to any of the above, get them on the next plane over, and like Sir Geoffrey and his Carribean jaunt, no need to isolate in a crummy hotel room! The more the merrier, especially if we want pigs in blankets( maybe not) and turkey this christmas!
