A couple of points: Blank ammunition should look totally different to live ammo. It is usually coloured differently. A mix up then would not be easy. You can get killed or injured by blanks. Dirt in the barrel, a splinter of metal, that kind of thing, can fire out at the velocity of a normal bullet. Hence blanks need to be fired with caution. I was thinking about this and realised that there's probably no real need for actual blanks these days. I'm pretty sure CGI type effects can do it. The full implications of that I don't know. Bloke on the radio said the reason for blanks is it still gives the jolt, as oppose to nothing firing. Back in the day, they used live ammo, James Cagney put a stop to it, he said he"s not appearing in a film using live ammo again-and they stopped it.

Yup in his biography Cagney said he refused to do a scene where a machine gun was fired at him and missed. The gun expert said it would be fine Cagney made him demonstrate it and and the bloke missed and would have killed Cagney if he had been standing in the place he was supposed to be.

Yeah, 5 or 6 staff waked off site a few hours before because of working conditions, and the armourer was a 22 year old lady whos dad got her in, he was an armourer to, and she had previously handed a loaded gun to an 11 year old girl! The staff were promised a local hotel in town to live in, but ended up 50 miles away, nice drive after a long shift!

Couple of questions about this. I heard another person was also injured and taken to hospital? Why the f**k is there any need to have live ammo anywhere near a film set, let alone within the area of the blanks? Terrible thing to happen, and sure Baldwin will carry this for the rest of his life.

Apparently she and others on the set were target shooting in their spare time so perhaps a live round got mixed up with the blanks. This is the key question why were they allowed to do this. Was it bring your gun to work week?

Just as well this doesn't happen at the Olympics with the starters pistol, sorry you in the top tier, we were playing shoot the can between races and forgot to put the blanks back in!

Sounds like a lot of corner cutting and a disaster waiting to happen Yeah, all about the money, I was on a building site years back, went up the stairway to floor 5 and there was no lighting, but bricks scattered and rubble and two open lift shafts, waiting for a victim to drop 5 floors! I went and told the site forman, politely, that its an accident-and death- waiting to happen, 15 mins later my charge hand came over to me and told me I was fired! Thats what you get with no representation these days-even those days! I did call the HSE on leaving and was pleased to hear the whole site was shut down the next day for a couple of days, hope the useless cnut got it in the neck from the chairman, it was a big job and time is money, especially if you don"t finish on time!
