He’s a good graphic designer with a flair for self promotion. If he’s an artist it’s in the same way that Love Island is a tv show but so is Life on Earth.

I don't see his work as being that throwaway. Tongue in cheek perhaps, but clearly at times an intelligent encapsulation of a theme - as stark and memorable as many a well known art piece. I see what you mean though in that in trying to capture a moment it is 'pop' in nature. I class throwaway pop art as something along the lines of Jeff Koons. Banksy always tries to evoke a reaction, and agree or disagree with his politics, frequently succeeds. Can't fault him on the self promotion front either, true!

Anyone living in Croydon had the chance to see several pieces of his work. Displayed in shop fronts in Crown Hill in October 2019. I thought it was great Banksy shop featuring Stormzy stab vest appears in Croydon [Link]

I don’t think what he does is the equivalent to people like Gillray, Cruickshank or Hogarth.

Many world famous artists of the past were treated as it their work was nothing in their day, so it shows how subjective all of this is. That's the beauty of it really. Of every artwork we love, I bet hundreds of more unheralded individuals are doing something similar. Ability, creativity, longevity and luck no doubt all factor to who ends up top of the pile. did you visit the Occupied West Banksy? Originally posted by MrRobbo
On a trip to Israel a couple of years back we took the A rather scary bus ride into Bethlehem. My wife wanted to see the church, I wanted to see the Banksy work on the wall. Whilst there we visited Banksy’s hotel. Pretty cool.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
