We all know Luka is decent but his passing is not the best and his dead ball taking is awful. I get the argument for Gallagher on the edge of the box but beating the first man with a corner or free kick can be so much more dangerous. Leave him to break down attacks and let the more creative players do their job.
I am enjoying being back at Selhurst and having a beer with my mates just like we have done for the past 40 years. Through Thick and thin we stick with our club. Not chairman, players or managers, OUR CLUB! |

Whilst he has improved on last season's form, he's still one of our weak links - poor distribution, doesn't win it back very often and the set pieces are absolutely infuriating - I'm not sure exactly what he brings to the team anymore. Would like to see us try McCarthur in the deeper role with CG and Hughes in front - McCarthur surely can't keep up the intensity of his current role for a full season. McArthur can't play the deeper role as you need to be a good passer and he's average in that department. Same with Kouyate. Surely it's Luka or Hughes. Not sure what's Hughes is doing in training although PV is not one for mass changes to his starting XI.

Luca seems to be a conundrum for the spectator, set pieces average to poor, passing inconsistent and variable from giveaways to creative, lots of yellow cards because the opposing player has beaten him, so is he there because he provides leadership and structure on the field? Bit of a head scratcher imho. We still need to fine the "Cabaye" replacement - maybe that's Eze playing alongside Connor (we should move heaven and earth sign him). This might be Macca's last season as a high octane player; but the Gaffer knows more about the midfield than the rest of us put together, so it will be interesting to see how we progress in the area, because last night, Luca or not, we still bossed the opposition, both tactically and in effort.

We'd all like 3 Gallaghers, we're just not going to get it. If Hughes had been bought under Roy, we'd call him a Freedman signing. It doesn't look like Viera is impressed currently.

Zzzzzz another anti-Luka thread. Just what we need. He wasn't great last night. Sure. But he was part of a midfield that absolutely bossed Arsenal. So he can't have been that bad. Classic fickle fans. We see one corner that didn't make it past first man and suddenly had had a terrible game, no matter what he does. A couple of games ago he was arguably MOTM.

I think people have got it wrong regarding Hughes. I think Viera is just giving the players a fair crack of the whip who were here previously whilst embedding his philosophy. I expect when he decides to play Hughes - Hughes will be primed for the position and he will be a mainstay. The same with Olise. I think Viera is giving Ayew ample opportunity to play whilst slowly bringing Olise into the fore. Once he starts he will be a mainstay. Patience is a virtue and that’s my take on the Hughes scenario.

Gallagher was putting in some really good free kicks before Luca returned. I don’t get it.
