Very decent player and is in his later years (not compared to myself) but still worth his place in the side.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

No

Everyone has their own opinion but the guy is not Premiership quality going forward and hasn't been for a few seasons now.

He is very basic in his attacking play and takes to long to make decisions going forward.

This.
As for Clyne, he hasn't impressed me since sufficiently his return to replace Ward and Ward's attacking play is improving. I sense that he is responding well to PV's faith in him.

I'm still hoping we get to see Ferguson before too long because we need to know whether he is the long term answer at RB or whether we need to bring someone else in in the summer.

Heaven forbid a defender's main qualities being defending...

The weak link is an inaccurate assessment. He's not been regularly responsible for any major defensive errors, this season or last. In fact the weak link last season were players such as Cahill (who many were calling to be retained - baffling)

Is he one for the future? No - and would love to have real competition for that position. Same with the LB but we've got a good 1st team back 4 for the first time in ages.

As much as I love Joel, we do need to upgrade in the not to distant future. He isn’t technically good enough for quick accurate passing, and he’s a very good attacking fullback.

But the guy is solid and dependable.

I guess this thread was aimed at the crosses he has started to put in. It feels like the guy has figured out his limitations, i.e. he isn’t going to bomb past a player and get to the by-line, so he has started to cross when the opportunity arises from a much deeper position.

I can imagine he’s gone away and worked on this part of his game, and its starting to show.

I totally agree with you, but if you think that the modern day Premiership full back is not about how good they are going forward then you clearly don't watch much football.

Van Aahnholt is a perfect example.

I think Joel has responded really well to the challenge of playing a different style of football. And at a time when our opening fixtures have been against top teams.

If he can maintain the start he has made, I would be more than happy.

Ward is a great stalwart of the Palace team who speaks well about the game which is why he is so often interviewed post match.

He looks a different player now and we must thank PV for bringing him on. Keep it up Joel.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
