Hopefully this will give him a kick up the arse and put some fire in his belly. When’s he’s in the mood he’s without doubt our best player.

Ouch. Good motivation though really, if he can snap himself out of grump mode.

A spell on the subs bench should give him just enough time to ponder whether he has fallen out of love with the game or the game has fallen out of love with him. Fickle. Edited by southnorwoodhill (07 Sep 2021 7.00am) I agree but unfortunately we do not have an alternative and he knows it so he is in the team irrespective of effort and performance

Edited by General (07 Sep 2021 9.30am) He really didn't. Just because he touched the ball somewhere in the lead up, doesn't mean he played a crucial role. Those were all Gallagher. Wilf's been bang average for a while. Even the most passionate of fans can see that.

I doubt if he has been one of the worst 11 in the whole division this year, I’m sure he would be getting marked down because of how good the journalists think he should play.

Even the most passionate of fans can see that. Didn't he get the pre-assist for both goals, so there is a contribution there. He did also create the best openings v Brentford - even on a bad day, we struggle to create anything without Wilf's influence, even if it is just carrying it up to pitch, drawing attention to him and then offering a quick release infield (as v West Ham). No doubt his performance levels have declined significantly, but equally I think people overstate the decline - he's still far and away are most influential player in the final third, even in the opening games of this season.

This is so subjective (of course), but one thing is certain: he's just not performing to the potential he has and we know that he has. Wouldn't it be great if he really does become aware of it and it acts as a wake-up call? Ball is well and truly in your court Wilf - play it man..

There is a reason Wilf has made it into the worst PL XI of the first 3 match rounds. It's because over the course of those 3 games he hasn't performed particularly well.

I understand he was not picked for Ivory Coast either this international break. Comedy, I remember a load of palace melts saying he's made the right choice switching to ivory Coast and that he'll have a better chance of winning stuff with them.

One thing that annoyed me about Wilf last season was how he never really celebrated goals with his team mates. But against West Ham, he was going crazy when Gallagher scored, which is a good sign. We should have a lot of reinforcements in midfield coming soon, and I'm hoping that the new MFs will be able to get Wilf into the game more. The loss of PVA hurt a bit, since he was always the best at linking up with Wilf on the left.
