Schlupp is a good player and will not get into the midfield or attack when everyone is available, He has played their before and would be ideal, Clyne and Schlupp with Ward and Mitchell back up and hopefully one day Ferguson, who also has played more times at LB than RB

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Schlupp can do the job. When he came from Leicester he was signed as a Left Back. It would only be if Mitchell was injured as you have to give him a good run in the team. He looks solid enough to me.

when did Jairo play left back? The only league game i remember was v Brighton a few years a go. Looked nervous, positioning was poor and almost gave away a penalty. Was subbed at half time.

I'd prefer Schlupp if we need a change.

I don’t recall Riedewald playing well at left back either. I do remember the first game I saww him at left back standing not side on but face on when a right winger was dribbling towards him. Didn’t give me confidence at all and neither does his lack of mobility and agility.

Jairo did play left back for 2 or 3 games in early 2020 and got quite positive reviews on here for his performances.

It may not be his ideal position but he is cover, along with Schluppy.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Riedewald can do a job there - especially considering he's fallen down the midfield pecking order. I know it's not ideal: I was hoping we would buy a left back - like most other fans. Reminds me of when Souare crashed and we managed to have no left backs. There's always one position wanting for us.

Best place for Riedewald is on the subs bench.

Wouldn't have minded a loan bid for Jayden Bogle or Ola Aina who are both versatile and offer a bit more in an attacking sense.

Doesn't look like we'll be getting any fullback reinforcements though tbh

Jairo had a run of games as starting left back in 2019/20 season. To remind folks:

28-dec-2019 away to Southampton (league)
01-jan-2020 away to Norwich (league)
05-jan-2020 home to Derby (fa Cup)
11-jan-2020 home to arsenal (league)
18-jan-2020 away to man City (league)
21-jan-2020 home to Southampton (league)

6 consecutive starts at left back before PVA came back from injury to replace him. Prior to that run he also played left back in Dec 2019 against Watford, brighton and West ham too.

But most importantly, he won fans player of the month for his efforts at left back in January 2020 as I previously mentioned:

So he can do a job there even though it's not his best or preferred position

at this stage if we do get a left back it will have been left back right until the end. hopefully the fact that it has been shoved down the to do list means they are happy for now, i.e. they think Schlupp and Riedewald can cover Mitchell and/or Ferguson is getting a lot nearer a return.

Ferguson RB primarily.

Riedewald isn’t prem standard. Biology is against him, just like Owen Garvan. Very useful players at the right level though.

As we used to quip back in the day: "You are going to be left back today, son. That's left back in the dressing room!"

Not a left back, but I see that Serge Aurier has been released from his contract with Spurs. Any good as cover for us ? I freely admit I know zilch about him apart from he seems to have had a chequered career but played at a reasonably high level in france........
