Yes, I saw that. But who are they? Like I said no website (at least I couldn’t find one).

Who funds HOL? That's the bit I don't understand.

as far as I know its just the individual whos gone to the trouble of setting HOL up himself, posts on here as 'guntrisoft'
No funding bar anything gleaned from the advertising, just a labour of love I guess.

Yes. The owner has said above he hasn’t got the time to improve it and acknowledges it’s a dinosaur. It needs a total revamp. But it’s got a good entrapped client base. Surely there is a young entrepreneur geek out there who should get Parrish to back it. Parish is a big supporter of fan based projects and it is a great website for us fans. So come on. There must be a user who would give it a go surely? This assumes the owner would sell of course.

Ah, I missed that. I see, so, Mr Guntrisoft, what can you suggest? Are you prepared to hand over to someone who has got the time to update your site.

We all love it, so give us a steer.

As far as I'm aware HOL is owned by Penge Eagle and there used to be a subscription facility to help out but I couldn't find it when looking just now

ME, if you look to the RHS of this post you will see a yellow star on red banner, that denotes i am an 'elite member'. I pay £25 per year, as do others, there are about 25-30 of us(a cpl deceased) this money goes towards the upkeep of HOL, thought you, as an ex-mod, would've known about that.

Info for this is in everyone's profile under 'site information'

Ah, I get it now eagleman. I only joined up in December last year and hadn't realised there was a way to contribute towards upkeep of the site.

But, 25 quid from 50 or so folk doesn't go far towards IT resources. On the 'Elite' page it says the site has recently been upgraded, so is it a regular refresh job?

Is there a case for changing the structure?

We aren't actually told anything apart from how to moderate. I've had a look at the list and wonder how up to date it is as at least two of the members are deceased and many more haven't posted for years

In answer to your 2 Q's POG, i have no idea. Guntrisoft is the web master who does all the work along with Penge Eagle, perhaps a PM to them would be better directed.

Just a suggestion but maybe if a ballpark figured of the amount needed and how many to raise the amount might get donations to the amount quite quickly. There’s lots of regular posters so it would be easy to ask for a relatively small donation to keep the site operating. If all those donating knew they were being matched by others donating it might get commitment. You could have a list of members who’ve donated, but maybe that’s not such a good idea.

This is exactly how/why the 'Elite' membership of Hol was started - regular uses voluntarily paying £25 per year to support the site and server costs.

The problem is that this site is very much Guntri & Penge Eagle's baby (Guntri is the webmaster and designer/ Penge content/editor) and he simply doesn't have the time to update, however much money gets put in the kitty - he does have a job that pays for his life, like the rest of us, and that, unsurprisingly is his priority.

No good going to the club about this, BBS is the 'official' Palace fans forum, and Hol has always reveled in it's independence and freedom as the 'unofficial' one.

It may be old and slow, but it's the Hol we all know and love: be very careful what you wish for if you want others to get involved!
