Poland has agreed to drop their controversial oversight of judges so peace is restored there, and so is access to all that lovely recovery dosh. The problem with HU exit is that the population are actually quite on board with their membership, and particularly the coming generation. Orban is as throwback to those strutting little dictators like Franco I think the EU should chuck him, they can always try again if they want to be as democracy.

If they leave the EU will need new scapegoats. I'll nominate Italy.

As for the rest not worth commenting on. Edited by Badger11 (25 Aug 2021 10.09am) I understood your point, but to suggest Brexit was forced by the voters is untrue. It happened only because the Tory Party agreed to hold a referendum. Which they did in their own interests and not because they believe in referendums. The whole process was hijacked by a well-organised, noisy minority, who then exploited the weaknesses inherent in referendums as a method to determine matters of such huge importance. The voters were the willing sheep herded into the right booths by misinformation and jam tomorrow promises. Orban knows he is in trouble with the EU, so it's hardly surprising he is encouraging a separation. Totally different scenario.

More wishful thinking from you Steely. You're making the same mistake Maple used to make on this topic. As people grow older their opinions alter. I remember being 17 and supporting Neil Kinnock and Labour. People grow....old socialists are less common, it's always tended to be a younger movement filled with the inexperienced...or those that continue voting along old family lines without taking much notice. I don't see why this dynamic will suddenly change here. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Aug 2021 3.24pm)

According to you, other opinions are available such as the millions who voted for UKIP over decades and then for the Brexit party. That didn't come from the top, only when it looked a possibility did some of the elite jump on board no doubt for their own reasons. I don't want to re-run that debate I was merely pointing out that this time It is the Hungarian government who appears to be pushing the voters in that direction not the voters pushing.

HU exit is no sweat. A strange country veering from communism to democracy to dictatorship. What is it to be exactly? A hungarian is someone who gets into a revolving door behind you and exits in front of you. 😊 Under communism at least they had a great football team, the 'magical magyars'.

Democracy is mostly a myth as the choices are controlled as are the policies directed by elite funding and opinions directed and shaped by media....again controlled by unelected elites. Communism and fascism are similar and come in many variations but limit which elites get to direct. Democracy is better, but unless it deals with forces looking to control it it's just a convenient lie. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Aug 2021 4.05pm)
