The most reasonable way to look at it is probably to set aside the (possibly incomparable?) sum total of what Zaha has contributed to Palace in his whole career, and just compare Zaha and Eze last season. It's not a totally fair comparison as Zaha played upfront and Eze was playing wide, though you could argue that Wilf moved from the centre away from the goal to find space whilst Eze drifted in from the flank towards the goal. Either way, the figures were: League appearances - Zaha 30 Eze 34. In four less games Wilf got almost three times the goals Eze got without being found wanting when it comes to chance creation. Even things like tackles made might surprise - Zaha 26 Eze 27. Considering Eze was in midfield, and we hardly pressed from the front, Wilf put himself about as much as his younger teammate. I loved watching Eze play, and like many I've found Wilf increasingly petulant and joyless in recent years but even at his apparent worst Zaha is significantly more productive and effective than Eze has yet shown he can be. He can't play Sheffield United every week.

He can't play Sheffield United every week. Across the season as a whole that is fair, but I would argue it was a season of two halves with Zaha king in the first half and Eze the second. First half of the season Eze was adapting to the PL and sometimes went missing in games while Zaha seemed to have recaptured his top form. Then in the second half Wilf seemed unable to score, was easily stopped by most defenders and just seemed to wander around moaning. In contrast, the further the season went on the more Eze grew in stature and the by the end when he moved into the middle, for me, was outshining Zaha resulting in him (apparently) being about to get an England call up. As others have said, they are different players and if they can both stay fit and with the option of Olise you can't help but get a little aroused at their potential.

I wasn't really, only in relative terms. Messi at Barca. Wilf at Palace. Could add Ronaldo at Real. Too much emphasis on one player equals long term issues that's all. Just my POV. Plenty will disagree. Agree. Fairly sure you can trace Arsenals decline to Being overly reliant on Henry.

I just hope that PV may have had a positive influence on him regarding his attitude. We need him up and running to help avoid a disastrous start to the season.

He is absolutely critical at the moment, and he needs to be involved in the game as much as possible against Brentford. If not, I can't see where we get our 1st point from.

I wasn't at Selhurst today, but judging by the critical comments on the match thread from some of you about Wilf's game it does seem like his attitude hasn't improved. Patrick should take him on one side and make it plain that, unless he cuts out his petulant behaviour and concentrates on playing the quality football we all know he's capable of, then his days at Palace are numbered. Maybe the Chairman should tell him the facts of life too. He's not doing himself any favours with his approach to the game, but what's worse he's not doing CPFC any favours either.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Zaha has always struggled with officials decisions, with what we've seen so far this season from the refs he is not going to make Christmas.

Some are still making excuses for him after today saying 'oh it's hard for him as he's double marked, triple marked blah blah blah'... Well not today he wasn't.. He just looked totally uninterested in anything apart from arguing with people.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
