Towards the autumn of their playing career , the greats often join a smaller club as a player-manager..... to learn to become a great manager.

Ronaldo is 36. Soon to be seen in the English Championship ? Messi not far behind ?

Hard to dislike Messi, even with all the dodgy accounts and tax etc. Ronaldo, great player, but don't like him personally.

He's a better all round player though (Ronaldo).
Will laugh if Messi ends up at PSG. Was finally his chance to come to the prem and show the doubters he can shine in a decent league. If he goes to PSG - another league with 3 decent teams in it - it will just cement the fact he'll never be GOAT.

Are you seriously saying Ronaldo is a better all round player than Messi?

Yes. Moreover, he's delivered everywhere he's gone. For the most part, Messi has delivered in a league akin to the championship.

Some would say Greed or you would say???

Now if Messi loved Barcelona and consider he's been at the club 21 years, who helped his talent develop and more, why would he need to have a salary, or say I will play for £1 per year.

He was on £133 million a year and was bankrupting his team.

A year ago he wanted to leave, now he doesn't.

Is all about only Money to Messi?

Spanish law states any contact has to be 50% or more of the last so the minimum he'd be allowed to resign for it's half which is what I believe he had agreed to do.

Messi..... an amazing player who lacked ambition. Fearful of failure methinks.

Spent much of his career visiting Granada or celta vigo to play against donkeys.

Ronaldo will be the better manager...ten years from now.

Gone to psg ? Facing more donkeys at Nantes & Bordeaux. Messi hiding behind a glory squad of teammates. Afraid to play in a tough league

Even if he offered to play for free Barcelona still couldn’t register him as they still wouldn’t meet La Liga rules.

It’s nothing to do with Messi’s greed. It’s all to do with Barcelona’s financial mismanagement coming back to bite them finally.

It is to do with messis greed, he held barca hostage pretty much every season for the last 5 years, threatening to leave untill they offered him a new and improved contract. Even his new contract with a 50% pay cut wasn't a pay cut, instead of a 2 year contract he signed a 5 year deal with an agreement he could go to the USA after 2 years with the rest of his contract paid up so it wasn't a 50% pay cut in the slightest.

No player is bigger than the club but no president would have sanctioned his sale, it would have been the end of them. Their hands were tied and messi was well aware. He had more power than anyone at the club.

Football is a team sport.

The brilliant Messi is the reason the other 10 players at Barcelona all underperformed.

Barca will be better without him. Psg will still not win the champions league

Correct. Paying Messi such an outrageous salary has bankrupted the club and jeopardised his colleagues' careers.

His brilliance as a player is long gone.

Interesting article AS, which, if I've read it right, says that Barca's members are desperate to keep him at the club regardless of the financial harm he's caused.
