The only reason that Boris is there, is the same reason that khan is mayor of London and that is that the opposition is absolutely useless and that has been the case for some time.

Khan is major of London because he's represents Labour and because of the racial demographics.

Can’t believe the OP thought this was a poignant or funny question in the slightest stupid logic and inflammatory undertones...bet the OP even chuckled to himself while writing the comment as if it was a groundbreaking joke that didn’t belong in 1992....Can only assume you think black people have lots of children from different baby mothers..well I’m mixed race and have plenty of white/black and friends but I have 3 white friends with 4 different baby mothers but only one black one even have a 36 year old white mate who’s a grandfather...think you need to rethink your own prejudices.
Bet you felt really brave when starting this thread from the safety of your living room hiding behind the anonymity of the internet big man

If the rumour mill is true, then his fecklessness might be even greater.

But yes, not a great advertisement for 'Whiteness', I will concede although I do believe he is part Turk. Which explains a lot.

However, whatever you might think of him, and in my case it's not too fondly, he does have that special gravy. Was in the company of some foreign types the other night and the news was showing Johnson making a complete mess of something as simple as opening an umbrella. All I could think was 'what a moron', yet the company I was in all started laughing and joking about him in an affectionate way that absolutely stunned me.

Real people, as opposed to sad political geeks like us, do actually like him for reasons I cannot fathom. By all conventional metiers of the political zeitgeist we exist in then Johnson should struggle to even make it to local council seat, let alone PM with an 80 seat majority.

But he does. And there is no other explanation for his success other than the fact he has a certain charisma, that escapes the likes of us, which appeals.

That horribly simple.

Yes, horribly simple indeed!

I also believe the OP has made an opening remark that's in poor taste.

But while we're on the subject, this interview with Jennifer Acuri is illuminating to say the least.

For me she is falls just shy of saying the man she knew and the current prime minister are different people.
If you're able to think critically and read between the lines, then it's obvious isn't it?
There's been a switcheroo.

They were not laughing AT him. It was more an odd kind of affection. That is the point. He seems to create an almost kind of magnetism that attracts people. A kind of political 'Ready-Brek' glow.

I don't get it myself. I voted for him in December 2019 to get Brexit over the finish line but would happily wave him goodbye tomorrow but it's not going to happen.

I know what you mean Matov. A couple of nights ago I was up late and I found myself on YouTube, watching an hour and a half of Boris on Have I got News For You. They tried to make him look like a fool but he was hilarious.

However, choosing Boris as someone who has a say on how ordinary people live their lives! People should fully understand what they are getting when they voted for someone like that.

You said you don't get the appeal, I'm the opposite, I get his personal appeal but couldn't vote for him.

Now having said that, he was the only viable choice to draw some sort of a line under the first stage of Brexit, that was leaving, so I understand why many people voted for him and that's fair enough, it's a reason.

For me, the fact that the only choice to impliment the most important descision the country has made in decades is to elect an amateur game show host as leader, highlights the state we are in.

As steeleye20 said, the situation is not really about those in power. It's a reflection of our state as a people. Voting for those who we know are not up to the job, results in govenments who are not up to the job.

He's a comedian, that's why your friends laugh, in the same vein as Ernie Wise or Stan Laurel, ie the stoodge. If I had wanted a comedian as leader, I would have voted for Dave Allen

The standard of political figures in this country is the worst it has ever been. It is literally a matter of choosing the one who is the least sh!te or not voting at all.

Labour have had more open goals than Copers Cope at midnight but still can't make a mark. Laughable if it wasn't so sad and the reason it's like that, is they all benefit from being that way, which ever side of the line they are on.

Unfortunately all true!

Johnson is a reflection of the voters themselves.

He must wonder how he got to No.10 himself, but regardless of a deficient voting system, it is still 80 seats.

Focus on their basest instincts, tread all over them, lie from the cradle to the grave, they love it.

They can"t get enough! I think they get together and see how far they can push things, and are at a loss to think of how much further they can actually go before the public show the slightest bit of decent! Perhaps when interest rates rise,(imagine the 15% they had before), it could be a wake up call, but you never know. Maybe they are putting something in the water!

Boris isn't a Conservative he is a Liberal, until the times comeback to when Conservatives stand for Conservative values we are being led the same as the Liberal Party would lead us.

Presumably this means something has gone over my head, if you’d like to clarify the original point you were trying to make then I’d be willing to listen but let’s be honest the sentiment seems pretty obvious

It does, regarding over your head, but I see you have just joined so don"t know the posters as such.If you read old posts, especially about knife crime, you will see that certain posters put it down to absent fathers, and the kids running amok. It struck me watching the news last night that our pm himself has 7 kids soon with 3 different mothers, yet this is never mentioned in said old posts! Read back on knifecrime posts etc and you might get me a bit better. If theres any doubt, the reason I haven"t got a card is because everyone knows what I was getting at, and know I am not one bit racist. Apologies if you took offence, perhaps the title was provocative, but that was the hook.
