For what it's worth, I always select brands by the remote first, then view the shortlisted models from there. I use a Logitech Harmony remote that controls everything then if I change my TV I just input the new model and carry on as before. Newer models have Alexa too so presumably you can also control lights and anything else connected to Alexa

I got a Hisense TV from Curry's for around £300 last year. 50 inch, Smart 4K Ready and I can't fault it. I only use it for a bit of TV, streaming content and the occasional gaming.

Not a great fan of Samsung TVs after experiencing screen problems when just out of its one-year guarantee. I bought an LG 49" from Richer Sounds about a year go for £454; Richer Sounds also provided a 6 year guarantee. It is excellent. I also have a 42" Panasonic which I can't fault either - it is older, cost about £350 from memory.

People are getting carried away with 4K screens but don't forget that you need 4K sources to view it properly. You can get 4K programming through Netflix or Sky but at extra cost and 4K bluray discs cost about £25 which is why I've never bought one

You didn't mention size or main usage which is very important. Brand doesn't mean a great deal it's models that matter a fair amount of TV are rebrands.

Used to do a lot of work for Samsung's TV business. They largely make the best TVs, however the likes of Hisense and Philips give you almost the same performance for much less money. I probably wouldn't pay for a Samsung out of my own pocket because of the premium you pay for the brand. If you're going for a big-ish TV then invest in 4K and upgrade your subscriptions to make the most of 4K content. If you really can't see the different then get a new pair of glassed because you're obviously blind! Edited by Frickin Saweet (26 Jul 2021 2.11pm)

I play all sources through an AV amplifier which upscales video signals to 4K and there are many types of program where I can't tell the difference between upscaled HD and full 4K

As I stated before it is the model that matters not the brand. If you know your stuff you would know about a lot of rebranding and tvs that share the same parts with the only differences being features or software. It's rare to find anything under 4k now if buying new but because it has that resolution doesn't means its good a lot of the tvs that are 4k under £400 are garbage its just the people buying them do not know any better. 4k to 1080p was you referring to? most people cant see the difference and one of the reasons is they don't sit within the distance to do so for their screen size.
