at the time of crash, there was talk of tram drivers competing to take the fatal section / bend of track at highest speed.
I dont know if this was brought up at inquest?

I heard that rumour as well. The thing I don't get is how close the crash happened to the station so he hit that speed from a standing start and over a short distance. Almost like drag racing.

So if I’m doing 90mph in my car in a 30 zone and wipe out 7 pedestrians that’s an accident.

All recent Inquiries seem to have dragged on for so long, that any chance of finding someone to shoulder accountability is gone.
I'm thinking Hillsbrough, Daniel Morgan, church (and other groups) activities with children, and some shenanigans in politics where potential criminal accountability has been swerved.

I am amazed and slightly perplexed that the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) haven't gone through all the details rigorously in order to identify accountable people/systems. The HSE aren't usually ones to let anyone off the hook.

One of my first lectures as a student of engineering. "Accidents don't happen,...they are caused" Ask anyone involved with traffic collisions in the police.

Another failure by the establishment.

on the morning of accident, i was caught up in road transfers / blocks very nearby.
obviously i did not know what had occurred.
the bend the accident occurred on is(if im correct) a couple hundred yards from sandilands stop.
the bend is very very sharp.
Im quite suprised how this is being written off.
wouldve thought the driver would be up for some ' issues'
whatever, a terrible incident.

Also reminds me of the 'outcome' of the Shoreham air crash investigation. Andy Hill (the pilot) had extreme memory loss of crucial moments of his display for the investigation. Stress also delayed the investigation in his case.

Ignoring possible management complicitness and outside influences (for the moment), direct responsibility for the safety of those on the tram and others, rests solely with the driver.
Seems like a c-unit to me.

Frankly a little over simplistic. There are several questions anyone would want asked, for example:

What signage on the bend? Is there a speed limit system? If not, why not? Trams can be fitted with limiters. Why not better glass, structure of tram? Why people standing? Is that safe? What checks are there on drivers? What instructions are they following? Are they briefed on bend safety? Is that bend at a recommended degree for safe cornering?

Loads of those could be management and systems issues. This really could go to the top. Seems likely to me after such an obvious whitewash. We have to remember there are loads of people with life changing injuries. I'm presuming some have lost limbs or ended up in wheelchairs. They would want, and probably need and deserve, massive compensation. Plus of course, the families of the dead.
When you read the reports it sounds like hardly anything was asked. The reports are also not great.
Piecing together what I've read, it sounds like the driver stayed up watching the US elections. Whether he was a Trump supporter or not who knows. I'm guessing not but it seems strange this is a detail we have. I'll try that excuse next time I have a hangover at work and see how I get on.

I suspect around 40k, not exactly the uber rich. But not bad. There were similar jobs from a British Team operator recently in Dublin. There have been plenty of crashes too - I'm sure you've seen them.

You can put all the safety systems in place you want, all the training you feel you need but if the people you employ become lazy and complacent this all goes out of the window. I reckon the driver is responsible for this, he was in control of the tram when it crashed, and if he fell asleep it's only his fault, same as if you crash your car, your vehicle, your fault !
