Hypothetically speaking, say we do have a straight £80m for transfers: Olise - 8m Add: Gallagher - loan Now I know that would be a huge outlay for one player, but Abraham is only 23 and I personally believe he would be amazing for us under Viera. When you think what Villa had to pay for Watkins and Buendia it does put that figure into perspective. Also, if you could convince Chelsea to take say 20m up front with the rest based on appearances, goals, and us avoiding relegation. This is all pointless talk though as I can't see him going anywhere but a club that is in Europe. Really think we should increase defence and midfield

Finally, if it's thought that Rak-Sakyi needs to spend most of the coming season on the bench with a few sub appearances then we need a wide player on the right. In the Walsall game PV was operating with inverted wide players (Zaha and Ayew in first half and Rak-Sakyi, who may be two-footed, and Banks in the second). Edited by doombear (19 Jul 2021 10.03am)

Yeah, we probably need another centre-back, true. Maybe also a laeft-back. In central midfield we currently have: Jairo, Luka, McArthur, Schlupp, Kouyate, Olise, Eze So if say we signed Gallagher and with Boateng suggested as being on the periphery by Parish I don't see much room left there.

Edited by doombear (19 Jul 2021 10.03am) It could be possible that we let Andros go to allow space for Rak-Sakyi to come through as understudy to Ayew and we might not sign a new right-winger at all (risky in my view, but possible). If we are going to play like the first half at Walsall then I question whether Bentenke will be a good fit as it felt like more attacks will be along the floor rather than crosses into the box. Early doors though so we'll see.

Yeah, I thought that strange, tho tbf, thought he linked up well with Wilf & the one-two for the goal was good. After seeing Mateta come on for the last 18mins, I can understand why he wasn't preferred, looked slow & very unfit, still, early days.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I was quite happy when Mateta signed, and after that goal against Brighton, but when he came on against Walsall he looked like a baby giraffe that had just been born and was running for the first time. Hopefully it is just rustiness and a lack of game time. If not I'd write 'Return to Sender' on his forehead and stick him in the postbox. The early pre-season games always see some youth and fringe players start. Gradually we'll see less and less of them until the first XI comes together. Personally I don't see Rob Street having much of a role in the first XI next season, but stranger things have happened.

Tammy Abraham is a great player and would be a fantastic addition. However, I can't see us paying anything over £30 million on one player. He's apparently on £60k a week at Chelsea, I could see us matching those wages but not exceeding them. West Ham are (again apparently) paying Bowen £96k a week, Abraham's agents would be better off looking that way as Palace's days of paying new players silly wages look to be over.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I've seen Rob Street a few times in the reserves. He's really hard working and reminds me of Glenn Murray. I'm not at all surprised he was picked. I think we should try him more or at least loan him to someone decent. Not the Scottish second division.
