I donate to charities tackling homelessness in London - it doesn't mean I don't care about homelessness elsewhere, nor that I don't care about other worthy causes. I buy them a meal deal if someone is outside the shop I'm going in. Also ask what drink and sarny they want as had to change one for cheese once. He was a veggie and didn't eat ham. Straight up and I did. Or a coffee and cake from Greggs.

Good work Tbh people I'm with sometimes ask why and I tell them 3 or 4 quid won't change my life but it could well be the only thing these people eat all day. I've never been starving hungry luckily and it must be torture.

Then how can they even consider going to play a tournament in Qatar. It would be massive hypocrisy to only select issues that suit your narrative to be outspoken about. You are just wound-up because the players have stood solidly against racism and the stand is actually quite popular. In your world no one can stand up for anything unless they stand up for everything...better people just sit down and shut up and stop making you uncomfortable.

With respect you are talking testicles. " In my world" ? Bert is not the appropriate forename for you to put in front of head IMHO. I would also disagree that HOL " is an ignorant red neck site " and that " the Roman Empire had slaves but it was not to do with colour" and therefore not the same as the slave trade in the later centuries. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course. Originally posted by Bert the Head

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

It shouldn't be taking place there to begin with. A prime case of what happens if you cross the right palms with silver. Still, if it does and we go I'd quite like a fuss being made about various social issues really. Would show the hosts up, and make a mockery of proceedings and how they run their society.

I'm sure most Man City fans turn a blind eye to their owners. You get flogged in the UAE for all kinds of sexual offences, including pre-marital sex. Muslim women can't marry non-muslim men (racist, and probably sexist because they say nothing about a man marrying a non-muslim) and apparently crucifixion is on the statute books as a means of capital punishment!

This entire 'taking the knee' malarkey was a directive from above, seen as a marketing exercise essentially. Good for business. Remember the 'early' days? With the BLM banners put up in the empty stands? Players with BLM on the backs of their shirts? Its all about keeping the football 'brand' in the spot light. Helps sell football shirts and encourages the sponsors. This is what I am going to suspect will happen before the England team fly out to Qatar. There will be a big fuss made about how we all now have to come together. The knee bending will go and be replaced with something else. Then we will be told that 'unity' with the poor repressed people of Qatar will be best offered by all getting behind the team. Some noises will be made but they will also put out the narrative about this being the first world cup held in a predominantly Muslim country and that to oppose that is Islamphobic. Hence why players feel 'compelled' to go because otherwise, it sends out the wrong message. And so on and on. By going to Qatar, they are actually making a STAND for the poor and oppressed because of the joy they bring them along with the hope. So expect to see a fuss made about Muslim girls playing football and how the sport is helping break down cultural and racial barriers.
For me its more a case of emotional muscle memory now. But if I had my time over, I would have nothing to do with the game. Rotten and corrupt from the very top to almost down to anything much above impromptu league structures that are not even within the offical remit.

Crucifixion no, stoning yes Someone was crucified in Saudi two years ago. It's rare but it's technically 'legal' across Arabia. Stoning is only when you eat halibut during Ramadan. Edited by Slimey Toad (16 Jul 2021 10.29am)

Football is political in that England won the World Cup in 1966 with a labour government. It has often been pointed out and never quite dismissed as jest, Wilson certainly didn't discourage it. Even worse for the tories, it has turned out like that.
