Have the Penalty Shoot out at end of 90 minutes.

Winning team awarded 1 goal

Play extra time with all goals scored counting double

Therefore during extra time one of the teams is always behind which will stop negative extra time tactics.

The team losing the penalty shoot out has 30 minutes to put things right.

Less agony for the unfortunates who miss penalties as can redeem in extra time.

I think this has some merit I'm surprised it hasn't been tried.

Thanks Badger.

In 90s I wrote to EUFA. F.A. and Jimmy Hill on MOTD.

Jimmy Hill was the only one offering encouragement.

The others replied with a thank you and a pin badge.

You should try again. The chance of redemption is appealing and the people who enjoy the drama of a penalty shootout are still getting one.

Extra time should be played by the WAGs, and preferably topless.

We wouldn't have this thread, of course, if England has won the penalty shoot-out, would we?

And thanks to them I had a good night's sleep.

Exactly. Still, the news headline after the Denmark game was "it's more than football, it's bringing the country together"

Well that didn't last long did it? Lot's of racist abuse, fighting at Wembley between hundreds of ticketless 'fans' and the police and now endless talk about racism, bla, bla, bla.

No other nation in the tournament ever said that i was "more than football" and quite rightly so. It's a game of football, end of story. The real problem is that England (at least out of the UK) has no culture of 'passion' in anything', only one of 'aggression' compared to the other continental European nations.

Yes, we would at some stage whether England had won or lost. Personally I dislike that penalties always lead to individual(s) having to carry the responsibility for having lost.

How you can say the land...nay small island that produced Shakespeare, Austen, Dahl, Dickens, Tolkien, Beatles, Stones and countless other artists has no passion compared to other Europeans is so far fetched I think it can only come from some kind of hatred rather than reason.

I would ban penalties and play fifteen minutes with nine men and if there is still no result play with 7 men until someone scores.

Even after Southgate told them not to, they still booed the Italian anthem.

Their 'bringing it home' arrogance, in the end justice for Italy in my view.

Not at all, it comes from living in 8 other European countries as well as the UK. Still, I didn't expect you to agree with anything anyway, so no surprises there. Lists of classic writers, poets, musicians etc can be produced for any European country. Look at the Italians last night in the UK and in Italy (and many other countries), celebrating with passion, no violence, no excessive drinking, no racism, just having fun, something England fans (and in fact lots beyond football) simply don't and never have had a culture for. It's always aggression, conflict, violence almost like they have an inferiority complex and can't do anything about it.

The only 'fans' to boo the oppositions national anthems and often players when they had the ball were England 'fans'. What's wrong with them? They seem to have some very deep rooted mental issues that are specific to them.
