Well it is a dive as you state.

'England’s penalty leads to cries of hypocrisy across the continent', land of fair play etc.

English lectures on foreigners diving can now be consigned to the bin.

A shame the ref, who had a fine game, bottled it on this occasion, add the '2 balls' incident where he did not act either, if it happened to us we would be screaming blue murder.

There is a feeling across the continent that England's ride has been 'smoothed out' generally in the euros.

I believe it's otherwise known as 'sour grapes'

Little doubt in my mind that he played for the penalty. Happens all the time though and, as much as I despise the practice, it often works against us (England and Palace) so it seems reasonable that we have a decision in our favour.

Yes, it's unfortunately part of the game. Theatrics are embedded into the game now to the point where it's a massive disadvantage if you don't go flying to the ground as result of any light or moderate tackle. If we're going to start being whiter than whiter in comparison to other teams, the game against Italy might be the wrong one to do it in considering how they play .

It was a foul. There was clear contact (twice) after going past players at pace. Some of you have never played the game if you don’t realise it doesn’t take much to knock you over at speed. Does no one remember Andy Johnson?

Their free kick was debatable but nothing mentioned and they scored from it. Don't give that and we win 1 -0.
How's that sound.

And some of you never played the game before 1990 if you don’t realise you don’t have to fall over every time you’re touched.
Commentators praise players for being clever (Grealish “wins” fouls) when they “look for a trailing leg” or where they “felt a touch” and are “entitled to go down”.
To me a lot of this nonsense started when the rules were changed to outlaw the tackle from behind which completely ignored the fact that a tackle is different to a foul and it’s perfectly possible to win the ball cleanly from behind; Peter Taylor was brilliant at doing it.

Often happens to the host nation.

England are not the host nation, there isn't one.

The fixture list suggests differently.

True but I think hosting the semi finals and final and England being at home for all bar one of the games is just as good.

It was decided on a bidding basis and, as far as I'm aware, Wembley was the only bidder for the semis and final.

The penalty was soft, and the ref should have reacted at the two ball
incident just before.
To be fair the free kick which led
to 1-0 wasn't that clear either.
That's football though, and I'm not going
to moan about that. England was the better team, which also makes it easier to take.

Bad losers are so tiring.
Germans are probably the worst moaners in
that respect. Its not unusual to hear them
moan about their final-loss to England in 66 and to Denmark in 92. My father lives in Germany so Ive heard this tiring talk
quite often over the years.

You won deservedly.
Now the most of us danes will be cheering for England in the final.

After 2-1 the danish commentators started joking that the only thing which could save us now would be another crazy action from Pickford...

What a decent and magnanimous post. Thanks SK.
I wonder how many "Rule Britannia" singing England fans would be so generous.

When "our" Victor Moses got carded for diving, I was saddened but accepted that thems is the rules.

You can laud a good result , but diving ruins good football. I thought sterling deserved at least a yellow.

Every pundit I watched said it's a blatent dive. And the pundits know more than you dan.
