Hancock has only remained in position because of some rather Machevelian thinking about what happens when, finally, this wretched Covid malarkey is put behind us. Only then will he be offered up as the sacrificial lamb by way of atonement. Thrown out to be torn apart by the metaphorical wolves and all the blame placed squarely on his shoulders. I suspect he knows this and has probably been promised, numerous sweeteners by way of speaking gigs or executive directorships, all by way of deflecting blame. If polling had shown the Tories suffering because of Covid, I suspect he might have gone earlier but as matters stand, they are actually winning by-elections from the opposition right in the middle of all the s*** so better to keep him in post until such time as his oblation has the greatest impact. I am sure there is some clever German word that best describes his role but it is beyond me. All ears for suggestions though.

the front page of the daily star is priceless today
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

LOL. Seriously, sometimes the brazen, and brutal, nature of British politics even leaves an old cynic like me shaking his head. Personally I reckon Hancock has leaked these photographs himself. Probably even staged them. Because he can now resign citing 'familiy matters' and will go down in history as just another Tory MP caught with his fingers in the wrong till. Rather than Covid. And on a Friday. No big story like this is released on Friday. This is a Sunday lead. Not the end of the week.

Imagine him pumping away.

From a political career POV which offers you a way back into Cabinet at some stage? Resigning because you f***ed up the Covid response or because you just did what numerous other men have done in terms of a bit on the side? One is a national calamity, the other just a very human failing. From which plenty of politicans, including our current PM, brush off with aplomb. Those photographs were clearly staged. And then sat upon. And then 'exposed' on a Friday. Nah. It stinks. People who make it to that level of politics, no matter how dumb you think Hancock might be, are willing to go to lengths most of us cannot even dream of. With this as case in point.

It definitely makes a level of sense. He must hate his wife to do it though.

He needs a way to resign other than just sheer bloody incompetence. Now he has it. 'Spending more time with my family' is the classic line. And the timing. That is the clincher. Photographs released to the Sun only after assurances that the story breaks on a Friday. Saturday is considered effectively a 'dead' newsday. Hence why so much s*** gets released on Fridays because come the following Monday, effectively forgotten about, especially if a big story is broken in the Sunday papers. Those are what set the narrative for the week ahead.

I've heard this theory, and it's probably closer to the truth than most would like to think. That said he's making it extremely hard for Bobis to keep him in a job. Also not sure if he thinks any further ahead than his next meal
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Tbf he is only continuing a Tory tradition. I sympathise, I oppose their policies not their having a bit on the side.

I'd just assumed that with a name like Hancock that he was his own bit on the side.
