Oh and congratulations to the French for keeping the Germans out for 90 minutes.

A clean sheet is now considered better than winning 4-3!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Didn't we have a manager once who believed in attacking football, took Palace to an FA Cup Final but was criticised for dancing when we scored, went to Swansea and lost 4-5, and got blasted by the fans for being too cavalier? I think he was 'one of our own', come to think of it. What was his name? Alan something...

As I've posted elsewhere, after falling asleep during the opening game (Italy), I haven't bothered watching any games since. Yes, boring. And the format lends itself to boredom. I mean; 36 matches to get rid of one-third of the teams. Ridiculous.

Been saying this ever since the world was w*nking over Pep's Barcelona - and they were actually good at it. turned the game into a non-contest and bored me to tears. even if they Scored after their 150th pass. It's the passing for passings sake that does it.
"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one" |

There is a lot of truth in this - I think as a style it can look fantastic, but it’s reliant on really technically exceptional players to pull it off, which 99% of teams don’t have access to. It’s what I’ve always thought about Guardiola - some of the tactical things he does are really interesting, but they just don’t work without having world class footballers in every position.. can you imagine trying to play inverted wing backs with Joel Ward in the team?

Wouldn't mind seeing him give it a try though.
