I love the Scottish oil myth. It was their government and companies that paid for it's exploration, drilling, transport and refining. It is also protected by the Scottish navy and traded on the Scottish Stock Exchange. It must also speak Scottish and wear a kilt.

It's not Scottish though is it. It's near Scotland in some cases, that's about it. Some of it isn't any nearer to Scotland than it is to other countries. Ownership of these things just doesn't work the way this constant economic thread of Scottish independence likes to suggest.

As a matter of interest what government paid for the initial exploration? Doubt it was Scotland. Or is it the case of let the Central Government pay but anything made from it is ours?

Spending a lot being the better option than spending more than a lot is hardly a good choice. I agree that the SNP expect the UK to fund their project, kind of buy me a big stick and I will beat you with it.
If more major employers did this then people would be less enthusiastic Originally posted by jeeagles
Spending billions to preserve the union will be less expensive and disruptive than the cost breaking it up. We need a less London centric economy. Its a real shame the HS2 can't be extended up to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen. Edited by HKOwen (02 May 2021 10.54pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

A few months ago there was so much excess oil the price became negative as the big companies had to pay people to take excess production off their hands. By 2040 there will be a ban on manufacturing new petrol vehicles.

I know Steeleye loves my Daily Mail Links. Sturgeon fails to answer some pretty awkward questions about Scotland's post independence economy.

Let them go and become an impoverished dystopian nightmare. The prospect of independence is an industry employing many people on nice salaries such as Sturgeon's husband. They must know that economically it is a non starter. I like the way the SNP have all been instructed to have EU flags on view in video interviews and use the word The whole thing is like a student politics project, the Union came about because they managed to bankrupt themselves on a pipe dream sold to many by a few, sound familiar.........
