Agreed!! Look at West Brom’s goal v Man U, do you ever see Benteke scrap and attack the ball in the area like that? No!! Good point. Diagne's determination and outmuscling of Lindelof for that header was what we have not seen in our frontline for an age. Logically if Roy thought Tekkers was the solution to our attacking limitations at the beginning of the season then a loan like Diagne would of made more sense ? Bring him in if Tekkers was struggling. Bats seems to only thrive on good service which we don't have in this current team. As a result of the above both look equally ineffective in front of goal for different reasons. Unfortunately it looks we will have to grin and bear this until the end of the season at the very least but please not both together. Edited by Booted Eagle (16 Feb 2021 1.02pm)

Don't slag off the strikers ! What would you do with absolutely no service from the midfield who cant hold a ball let alone pass it ? A confident, ball playing midfield we don't have and haven't for many years. Michael Hughes, Ben Watson and Barry Bannon were the nearest but all were considered a luxury in our defence minded 'system' Get the midfield sorted and we will start scoring and, if as a consequence we lose a few 2-3 or 3-4, that will be a price worth paying. I'd rather that than all these 0-2, 0-3,0-4 and 0-7 losses we have endured this season.

I think it just highlights how good Kevin De Bruyne, Tielemans, Carrasco, Lukaku, Hazard etc all are and put it on a plate for these two. I don't mind Benteke, he works hard and is a central point in our attack and has put in some very good performances this season. Bats sadly is one of those strikers that can put the ball in the net but needs to be surrounded by good players in attacking team, of which we have neither. The sooner we can get some attacking tactics and remove some deadwood, the better. So being the case why is it that Chelsea didn't want him and why did Klopp waste no time in kicking Benteke out lol and the one thing about Benteke is the fact that he does not work hard enough and whenever he's needed to be in the correct position up front he's hiding behind a defender as Shearer nicely pointed out about a year ago, I'd play Benteke in midfield only and to only hold up play nothing else when we need to see out a game. I honestly believe that our striking issues isn't down to our strikers, but down the Roy/the coaching staff. Since Roy took charge, our strikers (both the ones that were here and the new ones we have got in) have all been poor on the goalscoring front. Benteke, Bats, Ayew (bar 1 season he scored 10), Bamford, Sorloth have all struggled to score. I'm convinced it must be the way our strikers are being coached and told to play. You can blame both ways, but the ability one makes more sense to me personally.

What Benteke have you been watching, just compare his work rate with Bamford Vardy etc, he is the laziest striker I have ever seen not forgetting his limited skills! How long have you supported? Akinbiyi?

Benteke, Batshuayi, Sorloth, Bamford all have proven at other clubs that they can score and play too. But they've come to palace (under hodgson) and that changed. There has to be something in the decision making of management that is limiting the ability of these players when on the pitch for us.

When Benteke's gone he's not going to be as fondly remembered as Aylott. That's how good he is.

Benteke and Batshuayi have in the past yes not in the recent, Sorloth hasn't proved anything at all, the only one that has is Bamford who at the time was not quite the finished article (hindsight also helps but of course we should've pursued) but he had to find his feet in the Championship because we didn't have the time to wait and saying that now does seem very stupid considering the amount of time we've wasted with four who came along after him Wasn't he a loan too? I have said many times that Benteke never appears to have the fire in his belly for a scrap around and in the opposition penalty area. He doesn't have the doggedness of top strikers and is too easily knocked off the ball, which is saying something for a big fella like him. The guys a multi millionaire, on 100k a week, gets into the international team with zero effort and has put in zero effort for nearly 4 years at Palace. Now he’s just counting the £ keeping free of injury until June when he can tootle off into the sunset with his bag of swag.

I know it's "only" IMO he doesn't earn £20k a week.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |
