Mark's problem was that he was a Palace fan with stars in his eyes and not enough money to own a football club. Noades used his retained ownership of the ground as a pawn in his pursuit of personal gain. It took years of pain to get over the damage hes did to the club. For avoidance of doubt I am not in need to having to wear spectacles but if I did I would be more than content that my roseate view reflected the achievements of Ron Noades at our club.

I completely agree with your observations Willo. If I recall correctly, Goldberg didn't have enough funds to complete the deal including the ground; hence Noades holding onto it made sense for both parties at the time. Fortunately, it was all resolved with the very savvy acquisition by the 2010 consortium. £10m was the price I seem to recall - what a big multiple it would be today!

Say whatever you like about Noades, but he was chairman during our most successful ever spell. That said, his wife was apparently a whor@.

For some he is a hate figure I never understood that I thought he was a good chairman and prior to our current guy our most successful one. Met him at Gatwick once, he was travelling back with his wife. Happy to chat all things Palace. It was just after Dougie took over from Burley RN:” they got rid of the alcoholic and replaced him with the cheap option”. Seemed really nice and his wife was lovely. If anyone has read “Woodie and Nord” GS can’t speak highly enough of the Noades’s Edited by Spiderman (23 Jan 2021 1.08pm)

Like many thousands of others I queued for hours at ‘stupid o/clock’ to get my cup final ticket in 1990. Ron Noades came out of the club and walked down the queue chatting to every one that he could.

Every club he owned was thrown to the dogs when he left them. Struck gold with Coppell and Wright. He had several opportunities in the 90's to really push the club on, but chose to line his pockets every time. Its took 12 years and two administrations to recover from the Goldberg deal. Business men operation at that kind of level always appear to be friendly, caring, and approachable. Just look how Levy is portrayed on the Spurs documentary. Really they are ruthless, narcissistic, self interested c***s. Sometimes having them works to your advantage, but they should never be trusted.

Noades presided over one lucky year of success for the club. Achieved on a show string. I do think it can be repeated - probably not by us. However, our most successful spell is now isn't it? Edited by ASCPFC (23 Jan 2021 2.43pm)

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |
