I have zero insight to offer into the specific issue being discussed. But if you disagree with this decision you can contact your local MP. Who can raise this question on your behalf, query it, strive to hold the Government to account for what it has done. And then ultimately cast your vote in a general election with the hope of replacing the Government in question. Essentially as an individual, you now have far more chance of influencing this policy thanks to Brexit. Does this mean that you will succeed? Probably not. But if the EU had also adopted this policy then your chances of influencing that would be even less. This is the ultimate point of Brexit. This is a great example. I do not trust the current Government to make decisions that keep all interests in balance. Of course I did not vote for it, nor would I in the future. In the end the reason we elect politicians is precisely because we can't all have an informed opinion on everything so we have representative government. Currently we have lost our checks and balances and are represented by a small bunch of superannuated schoolboys. This was a chance for the UK to drive change by looking at alternatives to destructive chemicals. Instead, as usual, we go for the quick buck.

Thank you for the lecture on politics. I had not realised that was how it works.

IMO those that drove Brexit largely did so for personal gain. This is a great example. I do not trust the current Government to make decisions that keep all interests in balance. Of course I did not vote for it, nor would I in the future.

In the end the reason we elect politicians is precisely because we can't all have an informed opinion on everything so we have representative government. Currently we have lost our checks and balances and are represented by a small bunch of superannuated schoolboys.

This was a chance for the UK to drive change by looking at alternatives to destructive chemicals. Instead, as usual, we go for the quick buck.

A classic case of an issue people that people had no idea about yesterday becoming a hot topic of debate and suddenly everyone is an expert about today. We can definitely expect a lot more of this in the future. It could be a dreadful lowering of standard. It could be that the EU got the balance of risk/benefits wrong. Of course, the side pushing the argument will have a political agenda regardless of whether they are right or wrong. You could argue that: - Asbestos is a miracle material which has outstanding fire resistant properties that make it more likely to save human life than kill it. - Fossil fuels have lifted billions of people out of poverty and provided a lifestyle that was previously completely unimaginable. - Improvements to child mortality rates have resulted in millions of children being born into poverty. I predict the main outcome of this ruling is that a lot of people will get angry at each other on twitter.

As you probably know Tom himself was a spokesman for the NFU Sugar Board and grows a lot of sugar beet.

He is also interested in bees so I am sure he personally is trying to get the balance right. I just struggle to agree with him on this point and feel there are other ways to skin the cat.
