I would suggest Roy may be wrong on this occasion as there will be top clubs wishing to off-load, notably Arsenal.

Arteta saying he has too many players he cannot give a game to.

How long will Arteta last though? Ozil could be there longer than him at this rate.

I think it’s telling for me that we are a day away from the transfer window opening and I’ve not even spared a thought to consider if we’ll be signing anyone.

Just don’t expect anything really.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

10 players + the manager out of contract in the summer.

Suspect the club will be negotiating with a number of these players, as letting go all of them at the end of the season would be suicidal. Assuming contracts are only negotiatied end of season, 3 or 4 going wouldn't necessarily be a problem. Expect a quiet mid transfer window and activity in the summer, with 2 or 3 new recruits to fill the gaps.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Roys contract is not going to be renewed therefore they are not going to allow him to spend in January because the whole budget will be handed to the new guy when he comes in?
I am not saying (or even believe) that is the reason Roy has said this but its a possibility and it would explain why there are no plans to spend this January when we all know areas need to be strengthened.

We have a full squad, so we will not be buying anybody, unless we sell, there is no room.

The continuing comments about a creative midfielder are misleading, we havent played with a genuine creative midfielder for years. Our previously most succesfull side in 89/90 had Gray and Thomas both workhorses. Most clubs dont play with a creative midfielder, but rely of wingers to come into central position or a free role.

My concern is our options in central defence.
An amalgam of the aged, dearth of pace, lack of mobility, injury prone, not up to the required standard, with some fitting more than 1 category!
We have only played 16 games in a 38 game season.
Perhaps a 'Loan' signing would be beneficial.

I'd imagine Roy is simply telling the truth. He doesn't seem to play silly games.

It would make sense. The squad is full, nobody is likely to be sold in January and we don't need anyone new coming in to stay up. Its very different to Jan 2017 when we went into debt to sign PvA, Schlupp, Luka and borrowed Sakho. That kind of January is unnecessary this year.

Long term there are a host of important decisions to make, and if a young centre back is available in January then of course we should go for it, but if there isn't one then just sit tight.

If only our American owners would buy up all the best American players and gather them all at Selhurst Park. We are Eagles, after all...

Just kidding. But as I say regularly, it galls me that the Yankee owners are tightwads whose sole ambition seems to be to avoid relegation. They'll settle for 17th place every year, knowing that the resale value of the club will steadily rise as the fortunes of the Premier League rise. Post-Covid, that is.

Our players/ manager may be old and decrepit but at least they'll be front of the queue for Covid vaccinations.
