I would prefer to keep him unless we have a younger replacement in mind

To be honest our CB department needs a big overhaul. Ideally we would stretch this out over the next 2-3 windows but really need to start this soon to avoid being forced to throw together young and inexperienced players.

Sakho should be first out the door. Followed by Dann, Tomkins and, unfortunately, Cahill.

Kouyate might have a few more years in the tank as he a bit quicker and Kelly has never been more than injury cover so seems happy with his role.

A fit Tomkins should be in the first-team in my view. The problem is he has been injury prone and with our backup also being old and injury prone this is a serious issue. I think we can afford to let him go if we got a decent offer simply due to the fact he hasn't played for so long that it's hard to say we'd miss him. Also, if we get a young centre-back in they would have a lot of experience around them to help them bed in. Given Allardyce's predilection for signing players he has worked with before this is probably just media guesswork anyway (the man's only been in the job a few days so it's hard to believe he has already disclosed transfer targets when he'd be too busy securing his bonus and get out of jail free card).

If the West Brom rumour is true, then I would sell him.

He's a very good player, but as we know, injury prone.

Sometimes transfers are all about the timing, and if Allardyce is interested we can probably get a better price for him next month than after the end of the season.

We would be mad to sell any players in this window. With injuries and suspensions we are only a couple more cases of being down to the bare bones again.

Sorry fat Sam you will have to look elsewhere....

We could of course address that by signing a replacement...

We could, but Palace and coming out of the starting blocks to sign player don’t tend to go hand in hand...

Remember Glen and Jedi

Looked like good business at the time and almost relegated us.

Fat Sam can sign him in the Summer once WBA are relegated...

He won't be there by then...

I can't see the point of getting rid of our best CB, but there's no point his sitting on the bench. He certainly stays injured a long time, but then again, so do all our CBs. Probably something to do with age. Hodgson doesn't rate him as highly as Allardyce, that's for sure. Presumably he is fit again, so why not play him? If he's not going to make the starting XI, then 'cash in'. I put it in inverted commas because the strange logic of the transfer means that he is worth more than whatever we sell him for, i.e. if we got £10m for him, we could not buy a player as good as he is for that money. I hope we keep James Tomkins and play him: brave, able and totally committed in a way I feel Sakho isn't (the committed bit).
