Much Ado About Nothing. I don't think we're getting a deal yet? According to the media Merkel is now emerging as chief villein. As for fishing make it clear to the EU no deal no fish. As for the Navy tell them to warn off any trawlers in our waters and make it clear if they see that boat again it will be impounded in lieu of a significant fine hopefully that will be enough. There is no need to escalate this into some kind of phony war even without a deal there are still areas where we and the EU need to co-operate on individual issues. Tell the EU when they are ready to agree our red lines we can re-start talks until then focus on keeping the goods flowing and ramp up trade talks with other countries. Voice of reason - no place for that here ! Edited by Badger11 (13 Dec 2020 8.16am)

Edited by Badger11 (13 Dec 2020 8.16am) Merkel has to look tough to appease hard line elements in her coalition and the French. However, particularly German car business, already reeling from scandals and fines, has been very vociferous about needing access to the UK market. Is she going to shaft them for some loud French fisherman? Defies logic, and one would think that Mammy is logical.

In terms of pounds, shillings and pence, then a Canada stye deal should have been the easiest one possible. After all who wants to disrupt commerce? But, if Brexit was solely about money, I suspect Remain would have won the day, hence all that project fear guff. All conventional political thinking tells you that it was the right approach.
The EU is about a wider project than just a common market. Everything from the Euro to Shengan shows that. And one of the primary reasons I voted to leave. But those at the top of the EU know they cannot afford to let Britain go with a good deal. They HAVE to make it as hard as possible by way of a warning to everybody else. I get that, hence why I never understood our negotiating stance from the get go. From day 1 it should have been that no-deal was the overwhelming likelihood and worked on it from that. If a deal then emerged over the course of the talks then fine but as it was, then accepting that No-Deal was by far the most likely outcome. From what I have read, up until the Thursday of two weeks ago they were moving towards a deal. And then the EU decided to play hard-ball. Clearly a tactic they had agreed in advanced, hoping to hoodwink the UK into having to accept it. It's (hopefully) failed because any deal now is a 100% betrayal. But I blame HMG for being so naive from the start. The EU needed treating as a hostile entity as of June 24th 2016. The EU is not our friend. We need to remember that.

'shoot those UK thieves'. The rules of the single market cannot be anything but crystal clear to perfidious albion, we actually made them. Johnson is just a spiv trying setting up a pound shop and under-cutting the traders on the estate. If the situation here was reversed, the UK would be screaming blue murder.

Title provocative, and intended to be so. "UK-EU trade talks are continuing ahead of a mutual deadline on Sunday. The MoD said it was prepared for a "range of scenarios" after 31 December. Navy vessels are already deployed to enforce UK and European fishing laws for large parts of the year." (BBC website) and shoot up those dingys from Calais whilst you're there. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (12 Dec 2020 10.05pm) Title provocative na, just idiotic. as for shooting up 'dingys', are you hoping Katie Hopkins is gonna give you a handjob on your St. George's flag in the van?

Blockade EU fish too. Our waters our fish only too. You will need to explain the rules to the fish as they tend to swim about with their friends and might inadvertently stray outside UK waters. Will we Also be bringing back the compulsory eating of fish on Friday as many people especially kids don't eat fish at all.
