I find this a curious one. I remember when Leicester signed him (Think as an 18 year old from Birmingham?), I was very much of the opinion we had missed out on signing a promising youngster. Think he looked very good for the first couple of seasons and seemed to progress well. What happened? Is it a Dele Ali esq fall from grace?

He could quite simply like any other player or even any of us in our jobs, over stayed his welcome been at Leicester for too long and just lost his edge motivation and drive.

I think based on his playing style and what he could offer he would be a good fit if purchased and he is willing an d open to being in London.

Agreed. Fresh challenge needed for him because I remember seeing him a couple of years ago and he was definitely a talented forward, good on the dribble, two-footed, with a couple of goals in him.

What with BREXIT officially upon us, the Summer rebuild and thus far lack of transfer kitty investment, shrewd free signings are where it's at for us.

He's young and homegrown... and wouldn't cost us in transfer cash so why wouldn't we be interested

It always does cost you in transfer cash as the player & agent demand a signing on fee. Meyer’s for example was rumoured at £20m. If the demands are reasonable I’d like to see Gray in red’n’blue.

According to my Birmingham supporting friend he blew hot and cold. On his day he was devastating but "his day" didn't come often enough and for many games he was just a passenger which is why he wasn't too concerned when Birmingham sold him to Leicester and it seems that nothing much has changed in the intervening years

The same criticism had been labelled against Eze in the past with comments made that when he is "On it" he is unplayable but the problem being he wasn't always "On it".

We've already seen it with eze, he is decent in his day, but for me the Villa game he was utterly useless, constantly gave the ball away putting us back under pressure, and his feeble attempt to defend the 3rd goal was criminal.

Probably about 2 or 3 years ago I heard that Eze needed to improve his work off the ball and had to add discipline and workrate to his game, however at that time he was very inexperienced and probably a teenager.

I seem to remember he got a hat trick against us in his Brum days, it can be dangerous to remember a player on one of their best ever days. Like when Coventry bought Wayne Andrews off us because he scored a mis-hit screamer against them. No wonder they ended up in league 1.

No you're quite right on the signing on fee, nothing's ever quite "free" in that sense.

It's a tricky one that because on the one hand, I don't mind a fairly "high" sign on fee given to the player IF it keeps his wages reasonable and in line with the rest of the squad due to the danger of an unbalanced wage structure when it comes to renegotiations of other players' contracts in the team. The expectation being that whatever the sign on fee is would be significantly less had the player's contract not expired and the "selling" club had leverage to command an actual transfer fee.

I think but could be wrong, that the sign on fee can be amortised over the length of the player's contract. This is what's typically done when an actual transfer fee is paid club to club as an accounting balancing method to keep in line with FFP

I for one would be happy with this. If he can get back to his form of a couple of seasons ago we’d have a very good player. He was a very exciting player back then and still young at 24. This would be good business by the club in upgrading/replacing Townsend.

If we can find the room for someone like Gray, why not? Leicester , have maybe outgrown the boy. But he has always been a capable player, and at 24 there is still a lot of football left in him. As for off days, all players of this sort have quiet days. Even Wilf, has his share. Townsend, is struggling to have an on day right now. If he isn’t asking for ridiculous wages, well worth a shot.
The problem being , we need to get people out first, and even if we did it’s our mid-field that needs an update. So maybe he has to be seen as a luxury to far.
