We should not be entertaining this at all.
I seem to recall before Wilshere left Arsenal, they actually tried to keep him and offered him a new longer contract but on reduced wages, reflective of his high attendance to their treatment room instead of the pitch. He scoffed at the idea and thus ended up at West Ham on circa £100k/week wages. Since then what has he offered them? I think over the last couple of years we've had our fair share of injury prone players and even worse players on big contracts with little to no value-add.

When fit, not doubting Jack's quality, I just see this not ending well for us; we should be looking at youth or data driven acquisitions instead of "name brand players" that's living off their hype.

Conor Gallagher and Emi Buendia should be the type of players to look at instead. Both young (20 and 23 at present although will be a year older come next Summer 2021), and for comparison, both have similar/better stats this season so far to Jairo and I think majority of Palace fans has been praiseworthy of his performances for the most part.

Good post, agree entirely. We should not be going anywhere Wilshere as he is in the same category as Connor Wickham in terms of recurring injuries both long term and niggles. You are never going to get anywhere near your money’s worth on such a sicknote.

I know it might sound laughable to some, just released from West Ham, Roy was his biggest fan, makes Conor Wickham look physically robust, but some cheapish play as you earn deal to get his career on track till the end of the season might be worthwhile. If you could get a tune out of him I'd like to see him alongside Jairo - Wilshere has been quoted as saying it would be a dream to go back to Arsenal, he's either totally deluded or thinks he still can recover his form - the engine's certainly OK it's just the crank shaft gets broken or the wheels fall off. I wager Roy would consider this one if he could get an honest assessment of Wilshere's current physical/medical condition. A punt but maybe worth considering!?!

Really ? Thought he had been released an age ago but nobody wanted to take a punt in the summer for obvious reasons. Why if Roy isn't prepared to throw Meyer a long stint in the team he would be willing to for Wilshere ? Also cannot see Eze and Wilshere in the same line up, far too attacking midfield for Roy.

Good post and sums up why we should be avoiding him and any type of similar player with a long treatment history. The alternatives here look good possible type of players the club should be looking at. We need players that the current manager now or in the future are willing to play, have a decent record in terms of being injury free and will put in a shift every match.

And this season we've seen the benefits of buying young even when it doesn't quite work out.

Sorloth flopped with us but due to age still had time to garner some value.

Riedewald has taken a while and I wouldn't say that's necessarily been his fault but now is showing signs of becoming a decent player.

Whereas Benteke and Sakho will standout as very expensive examples who provided immediate value to the club (in some part keeping us in the division so not a small contribution) but have rapidly diminished since and imo has financially restricted us massively over the last few seasons.

It seems we've learnt from this and now seem to purchase experience through bargains I.e McCarthy, Cahill, Guaita, Butland and any large outlays on youthful prospects (as yet only Eze).

This is a model I'd be more than happy to continue. For instance I'd be happy with the cut price Lundstrum rumours if it means more funds available for other investments ala Sarr (not that I think this will happen but just an example).

Not an area we need to strengthen I don't think. We've already got quality like Meyer not even making the match day squad. Once Luka and McCarthy are fit again...it's an embarrassment of riches. Rather spend the money on finding someone who can put the ball in the net!! (Although I'm also rather hoping that problem will be fixed if/when Wickham gets back.)

Wickham had nearly a whole season before the injuries, had zero competition for his place and did much. Nice couple of goals in a few games and a decent header in the cup that’s it mate.
He will never , ever be the answer to a team that needs a goal scorer ,ever.
Need to move him on.

I wouldn't want us to pay his wages. However, wouldn’t it be nice to have a central midfielder who runs forward with the ball? That would be a start.
Every team knows we'll attack down the wings and our full backs will push up. We must be the easiest team to analyse in the division by miles.

Not for me.
Too many injuries, probably still thinks he can command a huge salary and clearly way past his best. This could go horribly wrong for us.

I'd rather focus on the top end of the pitch and somebody who can feed off the balls from Zaha and Eze.

Pay as you play with a minimum basic would be the only way he could come to palace. Might be useful for 15 minutes if we are chasing a game.

At long last we’ve got a good balance squad. Maybe knocking on a bit but plenty of cover emerging in the academy. Roy must be very happy. Clearly seen in the game yesterday. We’re only going to get better. Just GOT to keep Zaha. Superstar.
