I presume he can play in a back three - something we are not likely to see anytime soon. I don't really rate him and wouldn't see the point anyway. Maybe on a free or really cheap: Butland cheap. My concern is losing PVA on a free when we could have got maybe 20-25 mil last season.

I have seen Alonso ply his trade at left-back and left wing-back but not in a back three.
Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation at Chelsea but don't know if Alonso was part of the back three.

Alonso played well as long as he was younger. He was never a dedicated runner helping the defence but compensated with skill in attack. He is over 30 now and slower than ever.

Will flop at any team he goes to. And take his paycheck, which is huge.

Really wouldn't suggest him. I'd rather have had 37 year old Holebas than him. And trust me, Holebas isn't among the first on my priorities ))

We have an ageing squad and the desire is to sign younger players not players in the twilight of their careers.
I would dismiss the speculation.

The more I read about this the more it sounds like it's Chelsea pushing this story.

When he played against WBA he was shockingly slow. Some guy went past him at twice the pace. He was dropped after that game and I doubt if Mourinho ever picks him again in the league.
Steer clear

In my humble judgement,Alonso lacks that extra burst of pace and struggles defensively.
He has scored from some excellent free kicks and has scored goals with both feet.
His Grandfather and Father both played for Spain.

I expect his grandfather has more pace!

We all don't want him, so look forward to Alonso in January. It will be just typical of us. On this one, I'm thinking no smoke without fire.
I don't think PVA is brilliant but he's certainly alright - better than Alonso in my opinion.
I want PVA to renew but we may not want to give him 100k a week. I suspect that is what's going on. Just a guess, of course.

If we are to sign anybody from Chelsea I’d rather it were Conor Gallagher.
